Olu Deniz, Cappadocia & Pamukkale

We are hoping to take a package holiday to Olu Deniz next June and have already sourced a good deal but we really want to visit Cappadocia & Pamukkale during out visit ideally staying in Cappadoccia for a few days.

Can anyone advise us how best to achieve this, can we just sort it out when we get there with either tourist companies or the accommodation or should we sort it out before we leave?

Can we travel overland (if so how) or would we be better off flying (if so, recommended airlines would be useful).

We would really appreciate any assistance with this that anyone has to offer.

Many thanks in advance.

Personally I would book it in advance - you need 1/2 days in Pamukale and you can drive it from Oul Deniz no problem - maybe 2-3 hours that is all. 1 overnight stay (I can recommend the Venus Hotel in Pamukkale) will give you all the time you neeed.

Cappadoccia is a different kettle of fish - you need minimum of 3-4 days there to make the most of it! We drove there from Kalkan (about 1 hour further than OUl Deniz) and it was a 10 hour journey (we did it with 1 overnight stop). Otherwise you have to fly via Istanbul - a real pain unless you book it as part of your trip to and from the UK...!! We stayed at the kelebek hotel in Goreme and did all the usual sights (look at the Cappadoccia forum for more details) and did the hot air balloon - amazing..!!

You can fly with any of the internal turkish airlines (Pegasus, Atlasjet, Onur and Turkish airlines) from Dalaman to istanbul to kayerseri - but as I say - a real pain unless you tag it onto the beginning or end of your holiday!!

I hope that quick and brief answer helps you!!

I've done a post regarding the Pamukkale trip (see Ephesus/Pamukkale with Guide Tours) and you do need a couple of days to do Pamukkale/Ephesus - most trips combine the two with an overnight stay - well worth the money.

We queried a trip to Cappadocia with our guide, and he said it is possible to do it, but he said that to see it properly we would really need a week. It is possible to do it from Oludeniz, but as the previous post states, its a long trip. He said that the nearest major city to Cappadocia is Ankara, and that it would be wisest to fly into Ankara and visit Cappadocia from there.

Thank you so much for the advice.

It looks like it maybe too much hassle to bolt on Cappadocia to this trip, we are thinking it maybe wise to do a seperate break to Cappadocia alone to really benefit from the visit, it would be such a shame to skip through without giving the area the time it appears it will need.

We will look into it again closer to the time to see it there is an easier way to fly the distance but still may stumble accross a local operator in Olu Deniz would can sort something out.

Thanks again :)

we stayed in Olu Deniz last October and saw trips to Cappadocia Advertised but when we enquired they said the trips were finshed for the season. We have however been to Cappadocia and Goreme (sorry about the spelling) from Alanya a few years back and would not have missed it for the World and do intend to go back with more time to spend there, but from Olu Deniz it is just too much of a trek. The trip from Alanya was overland through the Taurus mountains across the Konya Plain with stops along the way, Breathtaking, It is probably better to look at doing this trip from somewhere like Antalya for a few days where it seems easier to book. Sorry I can't offer you more positive advice, but do go to Pamukle and Ephesus from Olu Deniz and take a trip to Saklikent Gorge a very short distance from Olu Deniz also enjoyed a trip down the Dalyan river to visit the Mud baths and Lycean Rock Tombs also not to far away.

As anniemuk has said, there are lots of places you can visit when staying in Olu Deniz, and you are better off for having decided to visit Cappadocia on another occasion. It really is an amazing place and deserves a few days at least to begin to appreciate its beauty. Ankara is the nearest major city to the region, but you can fly into Kayseri or Nevsehir airports in Cappadocia itself from Istanbul, Antalya etc. Also there is a night bus to/from Antalya to Cappadocia.

If you can take a couple of days to visit Pamukkale during this stay - then that too is amazing! You have the travertine pools with the ruins of Hierapolis above. Plus if you can visit the ruins at Aphrodisias en route - they are really worthwhile seeing. You could probably find an excursion to Pamukkale and Ephesus, or alternatively you could DIY a trip and hire a car. I too would thoroughly recommend staying at the Venus Hotel in Pamukkale.

Happy planning for next year!
