We stayed at Swiss Cottage from Jan. 1 -5, 2009 and loved it!!!!!!!!!

We stayed in the Norwegian Cottage, which has a front porch with large table and chairs, you walk into the front door into a large living room, towards the back and to the right is a nice, albeit small, kitchen with a small table and chairs, just past that is the bathroom with tub/shower. There is a back door between the bathroom and smaller bedroom. Then if you go back through the kitchen and walk across the living room, there is another, larger bedroom. The cottage is clean and quite charming. The living room has a window seat with windows that open to get the breeze. There is a small yard out the back door that would be suitable for a child to play. The cottages are inside a locked security gate. The office is off to the side on the front porch which makes it very handy if you need anything. When we arrived it was quite warm and not much of a breeze and we asked for some fans for the bedrooms and the owner, as well as Verona (lady on duty during the day) were very accommodating and they were quite adequate with the ceiling fans and open windows. Most of the time there was a nice breeze. It was a GREAT location for the price and we would stay there again, no problem!!

I don't know if you've ever been to Cape Town before, but it was very crowded and congested while we were there during the holidays. There is limited parking out front on both sides of the street, but the furthest away we had to park was 1 block which wasn't bad. There are usually parking attendants along the streets, who will help you find a spot.

Camp's Bay is the "place to be seen" and we understand why. The beach is beautiful, with great restaurants, shopping, etc!! We loved it!!!

This area is the same as any other large city beach area and late at night can be filled with seedy characters, so take care. We weren't any more cautious than we are in the States when we are in a large city beach area, but just want you to be aware.

We did not feel unsafe, by any means.

I can tell you that if we would've paid the unreasonable prices of the other places to stay that advertise they are ON the beach, we would've been very unhappy!! There aren't any places ON the beach. You have to cross the street to get to the beach, so don't be fooled. Their views might be a little better, but the main street is busier and they're a LOT more expensive.

Hope this helps.
