The Cradle of Humankind and Sterkfontein Caves

Just wondering what's the best and cheapest way to get to the Sterkfontein Caves? For two female travellers. We don't want to hire a car and drive ourselves there though.

Hiring a car is the most convenient, cheapest.

There is no public transport out to the "Cradle'.

The only other option is to book with a tour / transfer company, or take a taxi.

We just returned from Johannesburg, and also wanted to find a way to visit Maropeng and the Sterkfontein Caves at Cradle of Humankind. The sites are not right next to each other, so you do need transportation between them. We hadn't planned this visit in advance, and needed to find a tour company to take us at the last minute. After doing a Google search and looking at Trip Advisor, we emailed several companies and received a few responses. We selected a company based on their high rating on Trip Advisor, but would not recommend this company to others. I won't discuss the reasons here, but can give you further information in a private message if you want.
