Johannesburg accomm-Airport Game Lodge

Hi,

We (3x30yr old females) have been booked into the Airport Game Lodge at the end of a 28 day tour but we are wondering if this is the best option as it seems to be quite far from the city (we have a couple of days where we intend to explore the area). Any thoughts/recommendations would be great.

Thanks :)

No no no! Change the booking now! Suggestions:

Melville - is a little like the Fortitude Valley/New Farm area of Brisbane - has many cafes and bars and is one of the only areas in Joburg where you can go bar hopping. You won't find hotels in this area, but you will find Guesthouses, try "The Space Guest House". This area is very close to the Joburg CBD, so will be good if you plan on doing any tours of the CBD and closer for the popular sights of Soweto and Apartheid museum.

If you want a chain Hotel look around Sandton or Rosebank. The Tsogo sun change is a good option, the sun at Hyde Park Corner is pretty good. All these areas are similar to clean parts of Brisbane CBD and Southbank (closer to the river). Generally all hotels in these areas are close to or part of a shopping centre.

Enjoy your trip, Joburg is a wonderful city to explore!

I do not know this hotel, but, looking at the map, it seems to be somewhat "off the beaten track", and not very convenient for the "exploring" that you want to do.

Possibly, you would be better off, from a convenience point of view, if you booked into a hotel in Rosebank, or Sandton. While they would not have the country atmosphere of the AGL, they would certainly be more conveniently accessible by fast train, and closer to the city.
