Flights and accomendation help!?

I am looking to stay here next year and I really need some advice me and my husband are looking for a very good cultural experience! Preferably someone who is confident in traveling to give me step by step help.

First of all I am thinking about going in June next year, is this a good time? I'm a sun lover and am wanting the hot weather!

Secondly I have looked into cheaper accomendation and the hotels are really expensive, so far I have seen paradise cove get a great deal of praise, is this a good place? Is it a good location? Any one recommend anything better? I want to be on the beach as I am a sea lover, love diving snorkelling etc but want to be able to get to food places, restaurants and entertainment and the island etc?

Last but the most important, I have only been to one other country so I am not the most confident at traveling (this is what I need by a step by step guid) I'm very confused as to how to fly here, so far I have seen a flight for £1,100 return with British airways but it's saying its a 3 day flight, surly this can't be right? I don't understand how to book flights here and I know you can't fly directly to the island. Can someone recommend flights and companies that fly here?

Kia Orana Jo, welcome to the forum.

The quickest route would be London - LAX - Rarotonga flying/code sharing with Air NZ. Air Rarotonga our domestic airline code-shares with Air NZ for the RAR- AIT sector.

Get quotes from the airlines serving this route, as well as searching online via the Air NZ website. Key in some tentative dates to see what comes up. Air NZ only flies into Rarotonga direct from Los Angeles on a Monday morning.

Although it takes longer to get here, also see what some of the cheaper airlines offer from London to Auckland, with a transit or day stopover. Air NZ provides daily flights between Auckland and Rarotonga. Air Tahiti flies from LAX to Papeete, but this route will require an overnight stop to catch the small Air Tahiti aircraft that mainly flies weekly between Papeete and Rarotonga, with code-sharing with Air Raro from Papeete to Aitutaki. At times over winter there are Saturday flights between Papeete and Rarotonga, from June onwards.

Send an email to Island Hopper Vacations who are the inbound travel specialists based on Rarotonga. They can package flights, accommodation and ground transport and which may work out to be a better deal. They know this destination very well with a customer service agent located on Aitutaki you can call upon to gain fuller advice/information - travel@islandhopper.co.ck.

Regarding Aitutaki accommodation, Paradise Cove sits on a nice beach area. But the snorkelling is far better either around the Pacific Resort - Matriki Beach-huts locality (more facilities) or further north around the unsealed runway - marine resources hatchery (more isolated). But you can walk in both directions from Paradise Cove - say 20 to 30 minutes walk to reach better lagoon conditions. Hire a scooter to get to all places more readily.

For the Anaunga locality, which is where Paradise Cove is located, also consider Amuri Sands because it's closer to the better lagoon area and facilities, compared to PC; although it doesn't have as many units and is aimed towards the independent traveller. PC is a good choice having more guests to mingle with, a receptionist/resort manager, and some planned guest activities if this factor is important to you. Besides it's situated close to Puffy's for fish and chips, casual meals and island nights when the island is busier for tourism. Are you planning a solo trip at this stage?

All the best with your holiday plans. Kia manuia.

Hi Jo,

As you say, you are not the most confident of travellers. Also you've chosen a holiday destination a little off the beaten track.

I think on this occasion, if I were you, I would be going to a travel agent who specialises in South Pacific Travel. They will be able to put a package together for you which may end up being less expensive in the long run & with your input will certainly meet your needs.

Hi Jo, If you haven't already done so, check out the Top Questions on the right side of the Aitutaki Forum page.

You will find lots of good information there. The properties that Princess talks about are on Rarotonga. Since you posted to the Aitutaki forum I assume you are only interested in accommodations there.

The hottest time of year on Aitutaki is during December to February which is our summer. However, it is also cyclone season so it's unpredictable as to what the weather will be. The average temperatures in June should be in the low to mid 20sC. Given what is happening to the weather world wide it's almost impossible to predict any more.

You may also want to take a look at Ranganui's Retreat. It's walking distance to some very nice places to eat and on a good swimming beach. The snorkeling isn't the best in this area as there is little coral. It's a small island, however, so good snorkeling is not far away.

If you have any specific questions just ask.

Good luck with your planning.
