What is the best way to go about getting colons. We will be driving ourselves from Sna Jose to Montezuma and will need colons for the highway tolls.

The best way is to get colones from an ATM at the airport before you exit. Otherwise, just use any ATM. If you buy something at a supermarket and pay with dollars, you will get change in colones.

Note that the plural of "colon" is "colones."

There are two ATMs at the airports in the luggage pickup area. You need to use them BEFORE you go through security. (There is one upstairs in departures too).

All the tollbooths should have a person at them, so change isn't necessary.

Colons are generally considered part of the human anatomy. Is there are a particular reason that you need more than one?

Just kidding - once you have arrived, go to one of the ATM's in the airport and simply withdraw money. I always use the one on top of the escalator out by the parking structure. From arrivals, head across the street to the parking structure, take the escalator up and you'll be right in front of a little booth with an ATM inside.

If you would rather exchange money, you can go to the departure terminal (on the upper floor - same way as to the ATM). There are several banks on the right side once you are inside. Please note that you will need your passport in order to exchange money.

Do NOT exchange money at the exchange booth inside baggage claim - their rates are an absolute rip-off.
