Bypassing George Wallace Tunnel on I10 E through Mobile, AL

I have friends that will be traveling soon from Houston, TX to Ft. Walton Beach, FL. I would like to provide them with an emergency route to take in the event I10 E is backed up going into the George Wallace Tunnel. Looking for the easiest and least complicated route for folks that are unfamiliar with travel in the Mobile, AL area.

Thanks to all in advance.

Just take I10, tunnel in the morning..not worth going around...will be slow but steady unless there is an accident.

In that case, get off, down to causeway, go west ie left. You will be on 90 , go thru old tunnel until you get to Michigan St , go left, follow til you reach I10 again.

The tunnel is not usually an issue when headed West in the afternoon rush hour. Traffic flow in the AM rush hour can be congested but is usually manageable.
