Bypassing George Wallace Tunnel on I10 E through Mobile, AL

I have friends that will be traveling soon from Houston, TX to Ft. Walton Beach, FL. I would like to provide them with an emergency route to take in the event I10 E is backed up going into the George Wallace Tunnel. Looking for the easiest and least complicated route for folks that are unfamiliar with travel in the Mobile, AL area.

Thanks to all in advance.

I10east to I65 north to I165 to Bay Bridge exit, over Africatown/Cochron Bridge to 90/98 light, take 90/98 east until you see signs for Pensacola/I10 east

They can also take one of the exits off I-10 and go north to Government St, then east on Government through the Bankhead tunnel. They can pick up I-10 east just past the Bankhead.

Thanks! That was going to be my next question...if they go past the I10/I65 exchange and then discover there's a backup. Would one of those exits be Michigan St or Water/Canal St?

Broad, Virginia, Texas , Canal lead to Govt. Water goes to I165 OR can lead back to Govt by going left left on one way streets.

We drive from DFW TX to Sarasota Fl area 4-5 times a year and usually wind up going through Mobile to Daphne where we stop overnight right at commute time...

We are coming from Jackson/Hattisburg/Lucedale to Moss Point/I-10

Would those same options work for us if we are going across the Bay to Daphne?

Or just better to wait it out....
