Football Stadiums of Calcutta

I am planning a trip to Calcutta from England . I love football and visiting football stadiums

I just wondered a couple of things are any of

Salt Lake Stadium

Mohun Bagan Stadium

East Bengal Stadium

Mohammdan Stadium

Barasat Stadium

Kalayani Stadium

Open to the public to visit or easy to see inside.

I would like to visit all 6 if possible to take a quick photo inside for my hobby.. any info appreciated

Also I noticed th Calcutta Premier league has started and games are played nearly every day

May I ask

When I'm there in October (4th-6th) likely date in Calcatta Friday 5th October just wondered if there would be a game on in Calcutta and if so which stadium would it likely be played and also how much/is it easy to get a ticket to get in?

thank you in advance

eufcman,

We would probably class the Kolkata Premier League as a

Junior class of footy. Access to the games won't be an issue.

It's a pity your not there when the Indian Super League starts

in early November, Robbie Keane was playing for ATK last season.

If your staying New Market area of Kolkata the Mohammeden

Stadium will be a 10/15 min walk into the Maidan, more than likely

there are groundsman about, flip him 50 rupee's and they will let you in.

Eden Gardens Stadium is next door, that's a must for a photo with the

same scenario for entry. Was lucky enough to be there for 3 IPL games

in May of this year, 63/64 thousand fans, immense. Entry price for the

footy games will be around 20/30 rupees. Salt Lake stadium would be

around 30/45 mins away where as the rest of the stadiums are a good hour

plus further north.

Thanks so much for your help. appreciate that. So in general shouldn't be a problem taking pictures in the grounds

The Mohun Bagan wrote to me to tell that photos should be ok there

How much roughly in a taxi from Airport to Barasat then Kalanyia then to Salt Lake Stadium roughly ?

I hope to watch a game in Calcutta league as I'm there Friday 5th October..

Don't know what it would cost however when you arrive at airport

go to the Bandargarh pre paid taxi counter inside the airport. There

something to do with the traffic police and you will not get any cheaper.

Eg, Airport to Park St area 14/15 kms = 340 rupees. That should give

you a rough idea of costings per distance. Slip the driver a couple of

hundred rupees for waiting time.

Meant to say that was the cost this year in May.

Barasat Stadium not far from airport- should be between 10-15 km. But Kalyani is pretty far, around 50km , not worth the trouble. Will take you the best part of a day to go and come back.

I would suggest you stick to these -

Salt Lake Stadium

Mohun Bagan Stadium

East Bengal Stadium

Mohammdan Stadium

Also must see Eden Gardens. It used to be a football stadium as well and is one of the most beautiful stadiums in the world. Its right next to Mohun Bagan grounds.
