How to reach darjeeling from NJP via Mirik?

The scheduled arrival of our train from kolkata to NJP is at 9:10 a.m. One of our relatives will reach bagdogra airport at 15:05. So, we were thinking if we could visit Mirik (We will hire a cab) after we reach NJP and on the way (to/back from mirik) pick him up from the airport. Is it any how feasible in the given time span of 9:10-15:05? Otherwise please suggest a better plan like where else should we go so that we can pick him up from the airport by 15:05 and head towards darjeeling.

Mirik can be visited in 6 hrs from Bagdogra/NJP but not worth it. Because you have to travel almost halfway to Darjeeling for Mirik, whereas if time permits, you can visit Mirik at the last leg of the trip, your way back from Darjeeling to Bagdogra,

So, Can we opt for Bengal Safari instead?

I mean, We are reaching there by 9:30 and the person whom we have to receive at the airport will reach bagdogra around 3:00.

So what should we do, to utilize the 5-6 hours in between? Could you suggest something?

There is nothing much to see or do in and around Siliguri.

May be spend time at some mall, visit ISKCON temple or Salugara monastery.

There is a bus safari in Mahananda Wildlife sanctuary near Siliguri, you can check that if interested.

Yes, you can enjoy Bengal Safari. If time permits try to avail the safari in Tempo Traveler, where you are taken inside the forest.
