Is Jaipur Walkable?

Hi TA Friends,

Sounds like a silly question but are the sights in Jaipur walkable or is it advise to have a driver? We are two friends in good shape in our early 30s but only have two days in Jaipur. Many Thanks

Staying close to pink city you can walk in pink city ( walled city) . Monuments in side the wall. Very close to each other you can do by walk. Like City palace,Jantar-Mantar,Hawa mahal, Govid dev ji temple, Badi choipar, choti choupar, bapu bazar, albert hall m.i.road.lots of traffic go via small passage.

But Amer fort is around 10 km from Pink city you need to hire car or auto

Few sights [ Jantar-mantar,Hawa-mahal,city-palace,galta ji,gaitore and markets like johri-bazar,bapu-bazar,MIRoad etc ] r in the town [ in pink city ] which you can visit by walk and can say walkable.

And few r out side the town.so u need driver to visit properlly like Amber palace, jaigarh fort and nahargarh-fort etc.

We walked around the centre of the city, then got a rickshaw to the places outside like the forts.

Buy the 10 Easy Walks book and you will be all set!

I have the book and it is a great resource:

2 days is not enough time to be able to walk all the sights. You need a taxi to get to Amer and back. Again you will need a taxi to get dropped to the old city to do the 10 walks recommended by Dharmendar Kanwar's book (you can do max 2 walks a day). If you wish to do Jaigarh, Nahargarh, Galta, you definitely need a taxi.

If you want to wander in the old city, just start at Sanaganeri Gate and go up Johari Bazaar to Hawa Mahal, then down Tripolia to Choti Chaupar and the on to M I Road through Kishanpole.
