Train to Goa from Mumbai

Thinking of taking an early morning train from Mumbai (staying in the Fort area) to Goa on Dec 10th, 2008 and returning on Dec 15th.

Any idea on where I can book the ticket? How much does it cost?

Any recommendation on a good travel agent in Bombay?

Trains to Goa go from CST (locals call it VT) and Lokmanya Tilak (locals call it Kurla).

The train station in Goa is Madgaon.

Train number 2051 JAN SHATABDI EXPRESS departs MUMBAI all days except Wednesday at 05:10 and arrives MADGAON same day at 16:00.

Train number 0103 MANDOVI EXPRESS departs MUMBAI CST daily at 06:55 arrives MADGAON same night at 20:15

Train number 0111 KONKAN KANYA EXPRESS departs MUMBAI CST daily 23:05 and arrives MADGAON next morning at 12:30

You can book online.

Book your tickets on www.irctc.co.in and get a e-ticket for which you will need an id proof like your passport to show along with the print out of the ticket. The Jan Shatabdi leaves from Dadar and does not go on all days so you will have to book it only on the particular days that it runs during the week. It is the fastest train to get to Goa from Mumbai but you might want to take the night train that leaves CST just before midnight and reaches next morning around 10am. Hope you book your tickets well in advance since they usually get booked out pretty soon especially if you are travelling during the peak season of Christmas period. If you are a foreigner then you could also try booking it under the foreigners travel quota which has a limited number of seats reserved for foreigners on most Indian trains.

Cheers,

Aadil.
