Getting to Essel World from Taj President?

Hi

Can recommend what is the fastest/smartest way to get to Essel world? We will be staying at Taj Preseident which I believe is other end of Essel world. Should we take a train or car? We have a small child; would she be able to handle the crazy Mumbai local train? We want a less hassle way.

Also, other child friendly thins to do near Taj President?

Please help

Thanks

It would be more advisable to hire a car since the distance is very huge and while returning back you'll be too tired to travel by the public transport.

Near the Taj is the Gateway of India where you could spend some time. At a motorable distance are the Hanging Garden and the Shoe Garden where you could go on one evening.

Is there any particular reason you're staying at the Taj President? ask this because the suburbs too have great hotels and there are more things to do and Esselworld would also be a wee bit closer.

Sandysurve

Thanks. We will take a car then.

We are staying in President due to a conference so dont have a choice. A few followup questions:

- Whats the temperature (day and night) likely to be in November 1st week

- When is a good timeto start for Essel world by taxi to avoid peek traffic?

- In distance and time terms, how far are following places from Taj President: Juhu Beach, Chowpaty beach, Marine Drive, Mumbai Zoo, Aquarium,Not just jazz by the bay restaurant?

- What are some recommended restaurants near Taj President? In driving terms 15-20minutes?

- Whats the best time to visit Gateway of India?

Thanks

I would not even recommend that you go to Esselworld. You are looking at a 3 hour trip, one way. Are you sure you want to do this?

How old is your child? There are beaches, parks, 4-D movie theatre, game arcades that you might prefer to go to.

My suggestions for interesting things to do with your child:

1. Take a boat ride to Elephanta, go to the top deck of the boat. It's a one hour ride both ways, and you will all enjoy it. At Elephanta, there are monkeys to watch. Gateway is 5-10 minutes by taxi. Take the first boat out, 9:00 a.m.

2. Go to Chowpatty beach in the evening. It is also a 10 minute taxi ride. Many families will be there. There are small ferris wheels, merry go rounds, etc.

3. Go to Malabar Hill Hanging Gardens. That is about 20 minutes by taxi. Play in the Old Woman's Shoe and in the many swings and slides in the garden. Great views overlooking Marine Drive.

4. Go to Atria Mall at Worli and watch a 4-D movie, there are always interesting things playing. 30-40 minutes by taxi.

5. Go to Nehru Planetarium and see the stars. 30-40 minutes by taxi.

6. Go to Jijamata Udyan - the zoo. 40-50 minutes by taxi.

7. Go to the Natural History section of the Prince of Wales museum, it has a lot of big animals and birds and reptiles on display.

Dear Deepa

These are some amazingly invaluable inputs - thank a lot for that. I have no clue about Mumbai.

1. We will reconsider our decision to go to Essel world. The princess is 4 years old and she loves Bangalor's Wonder la theme park so I thought Essel world Mumbai will give her immense satisfaction. Is there any smarter way to reduce commute time (local train from church gate to Borivali and then boat to Gorai?)

2. Please recommend some Mumbai restaurants where we can get TRUE FLAVOR of Mumbaiya and Marathi food . Are there some true local food landmarks? We dont want to eat same Roti sabji :)

3. Whats the best time to go to hanging gardens when it is not too hot?

4. Is nov first week truly hot in day time? As Bangalore is really great weather (25 degree) with no humidity we want to ensure we keep our daughter in pool if the heat is unmanagable. Will it be right to say that 9-12 would not be soo hot (comparatively) as well a 6 pm onwards?

Thank

Manish

Your best bet is a car. You need to set out early before the peak hour sets in. Try leaving at 7:30 and you will be ok, streets are empty then. The trains are too difficult to handle.

Are you vegetarian?

4:00 p.m should be good. November is very pleasant weather, although not as cool and dry as Bangalore. You'll be fine any time of the day, except the afternoon 12:00 to 3:00.

Even if you go by car and not by train, it still makes sense to get the boat to Gorai from Marve/Madh.

Driving around through Bhayandar takes a lot more time. This cuts time by at least 45 minutes. Your car can wait fro you at Marve and you get back by boat.

Ideal scenario : Skip Esselworld. Not worth the long trip for a 3 year old.

For a taste of the local street food in a hygienic set-up, try the chaat at Sea Lounge at the Taj Mahal Hotel or at Cream Centre at Chowpatty.

Maharashtra Diva is a good restaurant for local Maharashtrian cuisine but it is an expensive place. There are many others which are much cheaper and found all over the southern and central parts of the city like Girgaum, Dadar, etc. Many places like Mama Kane, Aswad, etc. at Dadar and Shivaji Park are pretty famous for their local cuisine. I am sure you will love the different type of food in the local style even if it is only roti and subzi!!!

Cheers,

Aadil.

Soam at Babulnath. Try the street food served hygenically and their amazing home style Jain food. Great place, clean, nice ambience, aircon. Stylish in its own way as well. Fantastic place to go to after a visit to Chowpatty. Walkable. Don't miss the evening prayers at the temple just behind Soam 7:00 p.m. arati is fun to watch.

Swati Snacks at Tardeo is also extremely popular for vegetarian street fare in a restaurant ambience.
