Holla!

Shimla to Tattapani is a 40Km stretch comprising of one of the most beautiful and exotic drives in the vicinity. ( provided you are not scared of double lane roads and views that stretch to infinity at the horizon and the base of the valley if you look below. The roads are in exellent condition and tattapani is a very wonderful place if you looking forward to some adventures.

It takes about 1 and half hour to reach there from shimla.

Drive from Chail to tattapani:

Chail to Kufri is about 30km and another 40Km to Tattapani.

It would take you about 2-3 hours to cover the journey in a private vehicle.

If you are panning as tattapani a major feature of your holiday i recommend you to book a hoel/resort at Naldehra Vicinity.

Have a great Time in the Hills.

Shimla to tattapani is aprox 53 km whic will take at least 1hrs 45mins, From chail it will take additional 45mins.

There is a nice home stay in Baldian, 3km form mashobra towards naldhera, you can stay here for 1200 rs per night for a room,

From it takes about 45 mins for tatta pani.

Suggest you take good Sun Screen Lotion beacuse it is really hot on the river bed.

All the best

Nehal_10,

U r terribly confused about the directions.

Pls see the map I have mailed u

Why would u want to go from Chail to Tattapaani. Chail is in a different direction. If u r driving to Shimla, u can go first to Chail and then Shimla. Chail is before Shimla! A second best way to do Chail is to combine it with Kufri.

From Kufri it takes 2 hours to reach Chail.

Hope this helped!

Vaishali,

Is it better to cover chail on the way back from simla? Like go to chail, do timber trail and then head to chandigarh ?

Just trying to find the best way to make use of 5 days in shimla and then head back via taxi to chandigarh and then cover other places like kasauli on the way back.

thanks,

Hi Shubhi07,

You should travel to Shimla via toy train.

Please see below URL's:

http://tinyurl.com/76f7x6b

www.railtourism.com

It is called the Shivalik Palace Tourist Coach, fully furnished with dining table, chairs, on-board ktchen, bathroom with modern fittings and costs INR 2600 per person. This royal coach accomodates 6 people.

The journey to Shimla is more beautiful than the destination. The Kalka–Shimla Railway is a 2 ft 6 in (762 mm) narrow gauge railway in North-West India travelling along a mostly mountainous route from Kalka to Shimla. It is known for breathtaking views of the hills and surrounding villages. Spectacular scenery along the whole route, and the marvels of its construction, keeps the traveler on this line spell bound. The route offers a panoramic feast of the picturesque Himalayas from the Sivalik foot hills at Kalka to several important points such as Dharampur, Solan, Kandaghat, Taradevi, Barog, Salogra, Summerhill and Shimla at an altitude of 2,076 meters (6,811 ft).

The Kalka–Shimla meter gauge route and runs through 103 tunnels (one is not in use; so only 102 in service).Your trip is incomplete unless you experience this rail journey which has also been declared an UNESCO heritage site. I suggest you book on the KALKA DELHI HOWRAH MAIL (Train no. 12311) from Old Delhi Railway Station and reach Kalka at 04:30 a.m. From Kalka, book SHIVALIK PALACE TOURIST COACH boarding at 08:30 a.m. and reaching Simla at 1:15 a.m.

While on Shivalik, the view is best on the right i.e. behind the driver so try and get right window seats. The longest tunnel is called Barog, and is associated with local tales and legends related to its realization. Make sure you get down at Barog and explore the railway station. It is the most beautiful railway station in India with cottages and fountain and cafe. It also has a history. Shivalik halts at Barog for breakfast and newspapers. Don’t eat. Just grab your plate and leave it on your seat. Use the time to see the station and the longest tunnel on the route which was built by Engineer Barog (a britisher ) who was incharge of the construction. He started the construction from both ends. By the time the construction reached the centre their was an angle of 3 degrees and the tunnel was not 100% straight. Because of this the British Govt token fined him Re1/- He was so humiliated that he committed suicide. Hence, the station and the city are named after him.

The entire railway line has 864 bridges, some of which are multi-arched galleries like the ancient Roman aqueducts. Watch out for Bridge No. 493, historically known as the "Arch Gallery", situated between Kandaghat and Kanoh stations, is an arch bridge in three stages, constructed with stone masonry. Bridge No. 226; between Sonwara and Dharampur is an arch gallery bridge having 5 tier galleries of multiple spans, constructed with stone masonry and bridging a deep valley surrounded by high peaks. It is beautiful!

On the way back u can rent a cab and drive via Chail, Kasauli and also halt for a trolley ride at Timber Trail Resort.

For bookings on the Palace Coach call Sh. Kailash Hatwalkar at 09779240603.

Hope this helped!
