It is safe if yi can avoid the tuts on street who offer help before you ask. Avoid eating and drinking with strangers. For first timer to india golden traingle consisting of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur is good introduction which can be covered in 5-6 days. Rest very much depends upon no. of days yu have for your holiday and your interest.

You can travel by car, bus or train. Better to plan your ity. first and then decide how to travel between cities. It is allways good to prebk things.

India is still considered as the safest place on earth for foreigners .You need to take certain precautions while enjoying holidays in India as mentioned by Mr Deepak in his post.

You need to work out a little bit on your tour plan, duration ,places to visit your interest Than TA members will advise you accordingly.

Month of Nov is going to be a peak season............need to book the hotels.

For other queries ..........search in the box above for hotels......transportation....guides etc....

Usually people travelling to India do a mixture of all kinds of transport, it depends on your itinerary so you need to get that sorted first, you also don't say how long you have to travel.

Another good forum to get info is the Indiamike forum, there are a lot of solo travellers there who will be able to give you good advice

Much depends on where you want to go ?

If you hire a taxi, establish the cost first, and pay when you arrive.

Buses are very low cost, trains are exceptional value, as they are heavily subsidised. But dont set your watch by them. Overnight trains are also a useful, cheap alternative to hotels, or hostels.

Also watch out for scams on the station platforms, people ask to see your tickets, and thats the last you see of them, or, they tell you trains are cancelled, and they will take you to the office to sort the problem for you. Before you know it, you are in a taxi, and paying again, and usually a 1,000% hiked cost, for a journey that you already had perfectly good tickets for.

Try to get some small denomination bank notes, "I dont have change" is a common problem, and not only in India.

Be wary of everyone, even in the most friendly of countries, there are villains, and these days you can spend a night or two, worrying if you will ever see your kidney again. Ok, so I now go to the extreme, but if my boys were going anywhere, thats the advice I would drum into them.

I have seen all the movies

November is one of the best months to travel North India so obviously things would be quite busy. To plan/book ahead will provide you more safety. Sometimes, many sectors train ticket is sold out even though two / three months before. For solo traveler hiring car and driver would be expensive better to use trains & local transports.

I recommend you to arrange pre-booked transfer from IGI Airport to hotel and at least one night hotel in Delhi. Most of cheating cases were happen during arrival time and 1st day.

India is safe for solo traveler but avoid to be friendly with street peoples, ignore tempting offers and also be careful about fake Govt. of India tourist offices signboard. Touts are quite active in Delhi ( Specially tourist places), Agra , Khajuraho and Varanasi.

If hired taxi , tuk tuk and porter , note his no. for extra safety.

Tourist Places to visit- Delhi – Varanasi- Khajuraho-Agra & Rajasthan. Haridwar , Rishikesh and Dharamshala is also considerable.

Off beaten safe places are mostly in Rajasthan, to visit these places you need to hire car and driver. Bikaner , Jodhpur , Udaipur and Bundi could be base for off beaten places.

Train , flight and medium to top end hotels bookings better to arrange in advance.
