help with itinerary - delhi-agra-jaipur-bombay

Hi everyone!

I'm trying to decide on an itinerary for a trip to India in May. I land in Delhi around 3/3:30am on a Thursday morning, and have to be in Chennai the following Tuesday evening for a wedding.

I've heard that Bombay is more fun/exciting than Delhi but because the Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays it complicates things a bit.

One possible itinerary is arrive Delhi 3am Thursday morning, drop bags off at hotel, hire car to do Agra/Taj Mahal Thursday (we can sleep in the car/train on the way to the Taj from Delhi), Delhi sightseeing/shopping Friday, then do we fly Delhi-Jaipur Saturday morning, spend Saturday/Sunday in Jaipur and then fly to Bombay either Sunday evening or Monday morning to spend 1.5-2 days in Bombay?

Alternatively, if people think we should spend more time in Delhi over Bombay - we can arrive Thursday morning, sightsee/shop in Delhi Thurs and Fri, Agra/Taj on Saturday with car driving us to Jaipur Saturday evening, spend Sunday in Jaipur and fly to Bombay Monday morning for 1.5 days?

Thanks!!

This can be you itinerary:

Day 1 - Delhi ( thursday)

Day 2 - Agra

Day 3 - Jaipur

Day 4 - Jaipur

Day 5 - Mumbai

Day 6 - Mumbai.

You can visit important places of Delhi in one day, thats enough. Then you can proceed to Agra, Taj Mahal would be closed on Friday, not a worry this day you can visit Akbar's Tomb and Agra Fort. Next day morning you can visit Taj Mahal and then reach Jaipur. Next morning you can start full day Jaipur sight seeing..and next morning you can catch flight for Mumbai.

Thanks!

Hello JJTravelBug1 ,

If you are looking for economy---

Day 02 Jaipur- Fatehpur Sikri- Agra

Half day visit Jaipur, afternoon drive to Agra enroute visit Fatehpur Sikri. Night stay at Agra.

Day 03 Agra - Delhi

Visit Taj mahal , Agra fort in morning drive to Delhi if you wish you can stop to see Lord Krishna temple in Mathura. Night stay at Delhi

Day 04 Delhi - Mumbai

Visit Delhi , this day you may take August kranti Rajdhani to Mumbai - Overnight in train.

or Delhi - Mumbai - evening flight

In so short time only car and driver will suite you for Delhi - Jaipur- Agra- Delhi.

Hi jjtravelbug1,

You can go ahead with either of the above 2 suggested programs. However just to be on the safe side, I would recommend you not to book a flight to bombay while connecting from either Agra / Jaipur by road to Delhi. Traffic is very unpredictable in India and you should not take the risk of taking a flight while travelling from another city.

Hope u have a great trip!!!

Hey travelbug!!

Itinerary suggested by Hari Mangal is feasible. Some suggestions would be:

It is better to hire a cab for a such an itinerary.

You should take the day off on Saturday. These journeys can be tiring.

Happy Journeying...

As you arrive early in the morning in Delhi you will not be able to do any thing in Delhi that early. Better you drive to Agra this way you are able to save a night expenses on hotel. You can relax in car and will be in Agra by 8-9 Am depending when you leave from Delhi. Visit Taj relax at hotel and later visit Agra Fort and Mehtab Bagh from where it is good view of Taj in Evening. Next day proceed to Jaipur via Fatehpur Sikri night at Jaipur. 1 more night in Jaipur and then to Delhi and Mumbai as per your convinience. There are many flights at different time of the day from Delhi to Mumbai.
