I think you should talk to a few tour companies. There are a few well reputed ones in this forum, including some run by fellow DE's. While a DIY may work out cheaper, having a local company arrange everything takes out a lot of the stress and you will have backup if something goes wrong. Get quotes from multiple companies, ask for testimonials, stick to your own preference of hotels by reviews and get them to work out a plan for you.

I prefer to travel independently - choosing and booking my own hotels through Booking.com or Agoda, often with no pre-payment and free cancellation, and hiring an independent English speaking driver. This works well for us, having visited India 7/8 times so far and with another trip planned.

Three weeks is a good amount of time for what you have in mind - suggest you start in Delhi for a couple of nights, then fly to Amritsar - 1 night there will be enough. Fly back to Delhi and go direct to Agra (1 night), Ranthambore (2 nights), Jaipur (2/3 nights), overnight in a heritage hotel like Fort Barli or Deogarh Mahal en route to Udaipur (or both if you have the time), and finally 2 nights in Udaipur. From here you can fly to Goa via Mumbai for your final week on the beach.

Ranthambore, Jaipur; Jodhpur and Agra best done by road i.e. by taxi from Delhi; if your budget permits. Amritsar from Delhi can be conveniently done by train.

Hi,

I would suggest you the following route:

Day 1 : Fly to Delhi. You can either do a half day sightseeing to Delhi, or take rest, depending upon the timing of your flight. Overnight in Delhi.

Day 2 : Breakfast, then checkout. You can either fly or take a train to Amritsar. There is a very good train "Shatabdi Express" to board for Amritsar. The train would take 6-7 hours to reach Amritsar.

Overnight in Amritsar.

Day 3: Amritsar sightseeing. Overnight in Amritsar.

Day 4: Flight or train to Delhi. If time permits, go for a half day Delhi sightseeing. Overnight in Delhi.

Day 5: Drive to Agra. Agra sightseeing. Overnight in Agra.

Day 6: Visit Taj Mahal at sunrise. Drive towards Ranthambore (6-7 hours). Overnight in Ranthambore.

Day 7: Ranthambore sightseeing. Tiger safari. Overnight in Ranthambore.

Day 8: Drive to Jaipur (4-5 hours). Visit Chokhi Dhani (village life experience).

Day 9: Jaipur sightseeing. Overnight in Jaipur.

Day 10: Drive to Pushkar (3 hours). Pushkar is a temple town. Pushkar sightseeing. Overnight in Pushkar.

Day 11: Drive to Jodhpur (4 hours). See some of Jodhpur. Overnight in Jodhpur.

Day 12: Jodhpur sightseeing. Overnight in Jodhpur.

Day 13: Drive to Udaipur (5 hours). Overnight in Udaipur.

Day 14: Udaipur sightseeing. Overnight in Udaipur.

Day 15:Fly to Mumbai (2 hours). Mumbai sightseeing. Overnight in Mumbai.

Day 16-19: Fly to Goa (2 hours). You can spend 3 or 4 days in Goa depending upon the time you have.

Regards,

Sonia Handa

A good detailed itinerary by Sonia. Lots of effort has been done by her. Kudo to her.

Bit of fine tuning needed as maybe you can go to Pushkar and back from Jaipur in a single day as there may be no need to stay the night there.

Also on day 15, you need not stay the night in Mumbai as you can do hardly any sight seeing in the limited time available. Fly on to Goa if flight schedule permit. It will give you an additional day in Goa.

November not the ideal season for Ranthambhore. Don't go expecting guaranteed tiger sightings. The best sightings are in summer (Apr to Jun).

Lots of offbeat and interesting places in Rajasthan, much more interesting than the big tourist cities. Please think about a judicious mix of rural Rajasthan and the cities.
