Ninh binh - Hanoi - Halong area

We're a family with three kids 6, 9, 11 years old, that are spending three days in Ninh binh mid July. After this, we have about 8 more days where we want to see Hanoi and Halong bay, but it feels like we could have time for one more area. What would you recommend that is close and can be accessed by train or car?

We were considering Sapa but think it's too far and also understand the weather is not the best in July.

Do some research on Mai Chau.

After Ninh Binh you could head directly there, before making your way back to Hanoi.

Hello there,

With 8 days, i recommend you my suitable itinerary:

- Hanoi: 3 - 4 days

- Ha Long Bay: 2 days one night

- Mai Chau: 2 days one night . Mai Chau is a beautiful valley, not too far from Hanoi.

Hope you will have great time in Vietnam

Cheers,

Thanks all, very appreciated. We've read about Mai chau and will look into it more, though there doesn't seem to be much available accommodation there at that time. Would you recommend a day trip from Hanoi instead?

To Mai Chau?

No, I don't think the travel involved is worth it.

It's something like 3 - 4 hours each way.

Hi,

Yeah, i suggest you should go to Mai Chau, as it's such a stunning place that just around 140 km from Hanoi. And it's also a great way to experience the culture and life style here.

Cheers

I'd recommed Mai Chau is a good option for you. 3 days in Mai Chau is enough for you to discover the village and surrounded. There are many activities you can take like hiking, biking, swimming even fishing :). 1 day or 2D1N hiking tour are highly recommended. Ask your hotel/trave agent, they will be happy to help you arrange a trip.
