Yes, this can be a problem. Don't know if there is anything you can do to make yourself less attractive to them. We have come across this once or twice during February and March, but found that they were a problem for one or two days then were gone.

Eaten alive in my experience is a bit OTT, but for sure, they are irritating.

Hi. We spent a week in Phi Phi in April and didn't have any problems at all. We spent a lot of time swimming and snorkeling - it was absolutely beautiful. We did see a sea snake though - ugh!

We ran into them on our last trip (Nov 2011), but only in certain parts of the islands. We had no trouble on Phi Phi Don beaches, but were enthusiastically attacked while snorkelling around the Phi Phi Ley coves. You feel a little sting when they 'bite', but it's not that bad as long as you know what it is. Then they come up in itchy bumps for a few days - again, as long as you know what it is, it's not too bad.

Our kids were bitten. Yes, lots of stinging but only for a day or two. We were given vinegar to put on the bites. Maybe they are like mossies and are a little selective on their dinner. Have a great trip
