Hi,

Should cost you no more than 1700 to 2000 baht for about 6 hours.

It is a great way to spend a day!

Take plenty of water, sunscreen and some nibblies.

Do head over to Bamboo and Mosquito Islands and if you have time stop for a drink or even lunch on Laem Thong Beach (its near the idlands) - Jasmin Restaurant is awesome.

Have fun K

I have a few questions that I hope can be answered here, since longtail operators don’t have websites, etc. this is the only way to learn about them!

What can one expect to pay for a 4-6 hour longtail boat tour during the high season? We are coming in January. Do you just walk down to the pier and haggle?

When is the best time of day to go, besides early morning? Since we taking the morning ferry from Phuket and then leaving the next morning for Koh Lanta, a 7am trip to Phi Phi Ley is not possible. I was thinking maybe 3pm or 4pm and then making Maya Bay the last stop (hopefully for sunset).

Are the longtail drivers guides or just drivers? Do they speak English and explain you what the things are? Do you need to rent snorkeling gear separately? Or do they have them?

Also, what are the best spots to go? Maya Beach, Viking Cave, Monkey Beach, and Pileh Lagoon are givens. Any other secluded beaches that the mass market tours don’t go to?

Any other tips, advice, or recommended longtail boat guides?

Hey Philly,

Haggle is the name of the game. Kimberleys price is spot on......but a good haggler will nearly halve that....especially late in the day. Leaving Tonsai at 3.00 or 4.00 limits your options so just head straight for Phi Phi Ley, making your last stop Maya Bay. You can find some options on following link.

Head to the beach to find a long tail - you will get asked no less than 10 times as you make your way there anyway so follow your gut and opt of the person you feel most comfortable with.

Most of the drivers speak fairly good english and will be able to point things out to you and answer your questions - but not all - mind you I think you will ebjoy just relaxing and watching the scenery - it is amazing.

Yes you can do all in one day, just set out early and you will be out for 6 to 8 hours depending on the operator.

Many of them will have their own snorkelling gear, but not all - you will be able to hire it though.

Where are staying?

Ok cool, so you will be able to hire a long tail easily from a local - always cheaper than the resort options.

I would head over to Maya Bay first up, beat the crowds.

Us Phi Phi freaks always reccomend that if possible head to the sea gypsy village around on Laem Tong and have a meal (lunch) at Jasmin Restaurant that offers great views to Bamboo and Mosquito Island and Krabi and Koh Jum in the distance.

You could do Monkey Bay, May Bay and Vicking caves early, head to Laem Tong for lunch then over to the other islands - weater and seas permitting.

You will be best to decide when you arrive.

Make sure you put up a reveiw of your resort when you get home!

Hope you love it!

cool sounds great, sounds like you have been there afew times, do you have any tips on things to do, bars to go to etc? is there anywhere with fire dance shows?

we will deff do longtail trip with a local, im sure they will be able to help us decide on a good trip. do we have to organise it with them the day before or can we just find them on the day? (we want to get an early start to beat day trippers from phuket to maya bay)

also i heard of a place called shark point where you can snorkel with the small reef sharks do you know if this is corrrect? if so are the sharks always there or is there a certain time of day to go which is best?

There is Fire dance stuff at Loh Dalum pretty much every night. Just 10 minutes or less, away from Cabana.

Shark Point is just off Long Beach, and the best time to swim with them is late afternoon.

Head out there at around 4.00 p.m., and so long as there are not too many longtails buzzing around.......................you will swim with sharks..it's great!!

Long Beach is walkable from Cabana.....but you might want to take a longtail on the way back.
