We are working out an itinerary for a trip to India. We will be in Bundi on 27 October which I believe is Diwali and wondered if anyone can tell me it we can experience it here or would be better trying to arrange being in a larger city on that date (not easy to rearrange the tour).

It is a good idea to celebrate Diwali in smaller towns and villages. Very different experience from the impersonal big cities. You will be able to interact with simple locals and participate.

Diwali is celebrated all across India, so you'll get to experience it wherever you go. The celebrations in smaller towns like Bundi will probably be more traditional, compared to the more commercial displays in larger cities like Jaipur (we were there around Diwali in 2018).
That being said, the only true way to celebrate Diwali is with a family of locals, because it's a very personal thing. But since you're probably staying in a homestay in Bundi, that'll be taken care of.
