Pondicherry is totally the opposite side. So would suggest you to avoid Pondy, as you would travel too far and long. There are a few trains which are from Howrah to Cochin (Ernakulam Junction) or even till Trivandrum or Nagercoil. My suggestion would be to reach Nagercoil by the Gurudev Express (Shalimar to Nagercoil) to start of the trip. Kanyakumari is very closeby to Nagercoil. Plan for a night in Kanyakumari and proceed to Trivandrum by train. You might stay for a few days in Trivandrum covering Kovalam and the other beaches around and proceed to Alleppey by bus or train, as these towns are well connected. After Alleppey, you might leave to Kumarakom. Then it would be Kumarakom to Munnar and from Munnar to Cochin, from where you may board your return train to Kolkata. Munnar is not connected by train, hence you need to take a bus.

Thank U all for the time & guidance ...... have another request to make .... could pls let me know how expensive is the trip going to be since, my budget is not very high ....
the economic hotel you will get in 1500/- to 2000/-
Just found out it takes nearly 3 days to travel from Kolkata to Cochin or Trivandrum by train .... Is there a faster route .... is traveling via Chennai or Bangalore feasible .... Pls advice ....
Hi Subrata ,
Faster route will be Kolkatta to Chennai , coramandal express take around 27 hours . If you are planing to come via chennai , after arriving at chennai you can take a bus/cab or passenger trains to pondi you can make a halt there for 01 night 0r 02 . Then you can take the night train to kanyakumari from villupuram , ie kanyakumari express . You arrive by morning at kanyakumari . A day is fine is kanyakumari other wise 01 night . After that you can travel in north direction which cover kovalam >aleppey > Kumarkom all these place you can travel by bus / train . Kumarakom to munnar only by bus /cab . and Munnar to cochin again by bus /cab .
From cochin there is only weekly two train to kolkatta either sunday or tuesday . Other cochin to chennai and then to kolkatta which is possible every day .
It will be better if you book the tickets in advance
