Sofitel strike

Can anyone please inform me of the status of the stike at the Sofitel? I just read the latest traveler post from May 26th, and it is a bit unnerving to hear of all the issues related to lack of service. We are staying there in 2 months, and I wonder if the timing is purposeful to scare the resort for the high season, or if it could drag well into the summer months?

Ia orana

It would havve been nice to follow the theread already started on that subject.

Understanding only too well the nervousness of anyone going there. 2 month is very far away. And tough to tell how far / how long the strike could go. The issues seem to go all over the place forom a 13th month of pay ( why not ) to keep in house the job of the shop keeper ( the intended person is a kin of the union leader.

You can always contact your Tahiti specialist/ TA to ask to be protected on an other property as you get closer to your trip. Just follow this forum for updates.

Yeah... Apparently it isn't going well... If you go to Google and search for Sofitel, Strike, Moorea as of the 25th of May Accur, management group, isn't really giving in and the strike has actually moved to Tahiti as well...

My Fiance & I are suppose to be at the Sofitel in Moorea & Bora Bora and I am getting a bit nervous... Like it has been said, contact your TA to ask about what is going on... I have hope that Sofitel will be corrected... I can deal with not made up rooms, but the lack of hot water scares me a bit... I have contacted Sofitel to find out what their stance was with customers and if I hear anything I will let the board know...

Keep your fingers crossed for me.... Less than 2 weeks...

I am also in the same situation. We are leaving for Tahiti and Moorea in 1 week (staying at the Sofitel for both). Has anyone been there recently? Will the situation affect our (very expensive) holiday, should we consider cancelling? Any information would be very helpful.

Ia orana expecting some report soon.

Why cancel when you can ask for reprotection to an other property?

Just call your Tahiti specialist / TA to arrange it

I actually called Sofitel Customer Care yesterday and what was disheartening was that the CC rep didn't really know anything about the strike... She told me that she was going to call the hotel and get a status and get back to me... I can just guess that will be that the hotel is running with normal services just light in staff.... BAH

I'll keep people in up-to-date with what I find out...

Read Bohemien's report on the same forum

All is better than expected.

For the reprotection, should anything get any worse, your travel agent/ tour operator should get some alternate lodging on the island ( or as seen in the past within the same chain of hotel on another island and have the hotel pick up the cost of transportation.... We saw last year some disruption at The Pearl resort on moorea with guests offered a stay on Manihi ( with the air fare taken care of.... Now That's what I call professionalism from the Pearl Resort to turn a bad situation around so quickly ! )
