Lowland Tribes

I am going to visit my brother in laws family in Pasaje a little ways away from Guayaquil for 2 days. I am also going to be in Quito for 4. I would love to visit a tribe. Can somone suggest a day trip to do this? Is it possible? It's my first time visiting and this is something I have always wanted to do.

I think I understand what you're asking, and visiting the Amazon basin might be your best bet. It's not as though the indigenous peoples live on reservations like in the U.S. If the Amazon is out, visit Otavalo, particularly on a Saturday market day, Santo Domingo de los Colorados, Chordeleg/Gualaceo,or Salasaca.

Santo Domingo is a decent option for a day trip - there are still communities of the Tsachila people trying to follow their traditional culture and a agency can help you visit them. It´s a long way from Pasaje but it will be a interesting contrast with the mestizo coastal culture you are going to be visiting.

Good luck
