BB is not a day trip from SR destination
Battambang is definitely worth a night. When you arrive stroll through the town and see the sites. The next day visit the Ancient House, Phnom Sampeau where the killing caves are, and take a ride on the bamboo train and return to SR after lunch. I can recommend the First Hotel, stayed there last february.
The bus from SR to Battambang was 3 hours with the company we used.
We stayed 3 nights in Battambang in a house stay.
The host Sam provided motorcycle tours of the surrounding country side, which was a fantastic day.
We spent a second day on a m/bike travelling to the Killing Cave, Banan and other significant site in the area
The third day was spent walking around the city.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time in BB and would recommend it to anyone.
Thank you everyone for your information.
It takes around 4 hours from Siem reap to Battambang, depending on how long the bust stops in between, but a small minivan can do it faster. Around 170km distance.
Battambang does not have what siem reap has to offer, but is still worth more than just a day. I would say overnight if you can.
A couple of nights here first before sr.
The circus is wonderful, as is the tour of the school atttached to it.
Bamboo railway was nuts, accomodation very reasonable, sights were not hard to get to.
Ask at your accomodation re taxi for sr ... it was cheaper and quicker for us as it was door to door.
We took Mekong express from SR to BB. Their office is right in downtown SR. trip was just three hours no break. Coming back was a bit longer as they picked up some pax from their hotels before heading out of the city and one toilet break so almost 4 hours.
BB is less tourists for sure, but a functional city for locals. If you like to take cooking class ,it is cheap there. 10 usd pp and you can eat the food.
What was the name of place you stayed
