Airasia - KLIA2 questions

Hi TA's,

We will be traveling with 4 children (8,6, 2 and 10months) with Airasia Gold Coast - Penang fly-thru and upon return will stop in KL. So all up will be at KLIA2 3 times. Is it advisable to book the redcarpet service for each flight since there are such large distances between gates and the entry/exit?

Also with regards to immigration, can we do this process at KLIA or do we have to wait until we get to Penang? (we have a 3hr stop layover at KLIA2 at 4am in the morning).

Thanks in advance

Lindsey

G'day Lindsey,

As you will be doing fly thru international to domestic- Upon arrival, look out for the Domestic Transfer signage to go through security and immigration checks if you have an onward boarding pass.

You should have your KUL to PEN boarding pass when you check in at OOL.

So yep, you will do immigration at KLIA2 on both leg -i.e. OOL to PEN(via KUL) and also PEN to OOL (via KUL).

Yep, so far no word from AirAsia when they are going to resume their red carpet service.

linz311, Wow 8hr overnight flight 4 children, your gamer than me, I would prefer the 9am departure from Gold coast, may I suggest applying for Optiontown Extra Seat Option, you can apply for vacant seat option , you could get 2 rows of seats for the lot of you, I think it goes 3x4x3, this would allow extra room to stretch out, these flights are very rarely full, so you have a good chance of being successful, we have applied 5 times for ESO have been successful each time, also our son was successful on a recent trip, we are flying in July 2015 and have applied ESO Gold Coast-Kuala Lumpur and upgrade to Business class for overnight flight back, if you are unsuccessful, your money is refunded less registration, as I have said, we have 100% success so far.

Hope this may help.

Good Luck

Thanks for the tip. We have been receiving plenty if emails from them offeig us this, but didn't think we'd need it. We booked a row of the extra leg room seats and then two behind it (so was hoping they wouldn't put someone next to us). But a whole spare row sounds nice to nap on. Out last trip there were lots of spare seats and people just moved to them during the flight (I think they just asked the cabin crew). Do they not allow this anymore?

linz311, Yes they do allow it, we were allocated a row in the window aisle through optiontown, a passenger asked if our row originally allocated in the middle was vacant, when told Yes he quickly jumped in and got the vacant seats for himself, you could wait and hope this may happen for you, but I would try the optiontown option first, if there are seats vacant you will get them first, better to be sure than sorry, as I said 5 times applied 5 times approved,

Hope that you are lucky with the seats, but more importantly, make sure that you have travel insurance. Air Asia flight departure / arrival times, are now UNRELIABLE. As you have already stated ! The arrival gates can be a distance from either emigration or the domestic terminal. Air Asia make no allowances for this, should you miss your connecting flight, they will charge you again, for re booking onto a later flight. It will make no difference to A/A if your ongoing flight is with their company, even though its their problem. Should this happen, they will quote, that they are a point to point carrier, and refer to ambiguous small print in their contract with you.

As most travelers are know, Air Asia is a low cost carrier, BEWARE ! Cheap can be NASTY !

Hi barryc99,

in OP case..it is a fly thru..so no charging again.

Actually MAHB has a role...they are bloody sitting on their fat arxx..on self denial..apron bay retain water, undulating taxiway..say no..doing some testing..all codswallop.

Aerobridge take longer than usual time to "kiss" plane.. the guy having a longer than usual "minum" time or smoke..they have this typical operating mentality.

Built a big airport...so proud of it..and only when rakyat and travelers start to "scream" use the buggy and to build more travelator ...see later, with maintenance mentality..buggy sure "harap maaf, rosak". Final certification also still pending, after how many months, and of course coupled with the "completing soon", on the way mentality..now to build extra travelator, which should be in the plan in the first place.

They are, initially in their operation, a P-P carrier..though with their introduction of fly thru..they have revise their T&C to take into account.

As a Malaysian you should be proud of AirAsia..there are other worst LCCs..even Tiger Air is no better, and speak of Ryan Air..without Air Asia, MAHB can also be privatised. You look at the FID screens..it is all AK/D7/QZ./FD/PQ flight numbers.

The advent of LCCs and more so AirAsia...I see many of our friends from Down Under able to come to Malaysia (not once a year or three years later, some are doing like 2/3 times year, and so knowledgeable of KL and Malaysia (some of which I speak of can give a pat on their back- they are frequent contributor on TA KL/Malaysia forum-all worth a TA nomination for DE status),and if not mistaken if from MEL can go to one of their fav destination- Bali- direct (with XT803)..and many Malaysians are not living "katak dibawah tempurung".

We must be proud of our Malaysian entrepreneur which bring Malaysia to almost everyone traveling destination.

Most people know Air Asia are a point to point carrier, & know that you are responsible for ensuring you have enough time between flights, not the airline.
