So, Air Asia X is starting its long-awaited London service in March 2009. Today's papers are carrying full-page ads saying that there is a special introductory booking offer for 4 days only, at UK£99 one way for the "cheap" seats for flights from March to October. Try booking online and see what happens! After going backwards and forwards through "unavailable" dates I put together a return flight London to KL in April. After adding checked baggage, meals and seat selection this "low cost" carrier came up with a fare of UK£ 535. Add to the very non-budget fare a departure from Stansted at 0125 and arrival back at midnight and one wonders who would bother. End of experiment - we have now booked with KLM, for slightly less. Verdict - pathetic and greedy.

Flights were released a couple of days ago now, so all the promo fares have gone....if you look on linked thread though people DID buy seats at that price.

Ha good one whiteflyman :) Think AirAsia only started selling tickets yesterday. I bought a return flight for £316, with meals, reserved seats etc yesterday night. Cheaper tickets were gone rather quickly. My family in Malaysia bought 7 tickets to the UK. My brother even bothered to go all the way home from office to get their passports to book the flights! :) Well worth the effort for him as the fare he paid is half what he'd have to pay if he flies with MAS. Stansted as a hub to Europe from Asia is ideal, but I'd very much prefer Gatwick or Heathrow due to proximity to where I live. You are right that £535 is hardly low cost, but at least it is direct flight. Hope their business model is profitable in the long run...

I have been trying to find the site to book and when i did this did not sound like a no frills airline to me.I want to go to bangkok and thought this would be a cheap way to go but with no meals and the fare i was qouted it was £200 pound cheaper to fly there with one stop over. This was obviously a con that wont wash. There bubble is bursting over in asia and when they realise that nobody is going there it will be to late for them.Greed never pays in the long run.

I had a great deal then, I go in april (1 ticket) August (3 tickets) and then october (1 ticket) total cost for all five tickets under £1000. I made these bookings the day the offer came out, and was just looking to see if anyone had taken the flight yet, and if so was it good.

It is worth remembering that airasia is a no frills airline and that its ticketing procedure is very different from mainstream. They work out how much it will cost to get the plane from A to B and then sell the first 50 tickets (or so)at 1/50th of this cost. the next ticket allocation will be around double the price, this is all profit, and if anyone is silly enough to book a week or so before then the cost is much higher. In general, standard airlines start to discount the closer you get to the date.

Look for your fares with airasia as they release months 12 months ahead and these prices are available

I just returned fron London KL London journey 2 days ago plus flying up to Bangkok!!. My journey London KL London cost £316 inclusive meal and seat picking. Inflight entertainment is extra which you get a portable screen for £6 for the whole journey. The flight is fine, not as cramp as BA, and there was plenty of space going out to KL to stretch out but nearly full on return from KL to London. Airasia is a budget airline and discount ticket needs to be booked in advance and I booked mine in Nov 08. Leaving stanstead at midnight is fine with me as it is rather peaceful and no Q at all smooth check in, just need to buy extra water at duty free though most of them are closed. I read books and slept all the way through and on return journey also a afternoon flight arrived Stanstead 2230hr. Given the price i would fly with them again. Be careful with the seat picking. I paid slightly more for the extra leg room seat turned out to be normal seat and has written to them to complaint. Have been using them for the last 4 years and the trick is to book in advanced.

I've got July flights booked too.

Check your flight times haven't changed.

Our flights were at 9.30 am arriving KL 5.30am the next day. That flight is no longer available and we were moved onto a flight 14 hours later leaving at 1.25am arriving 9.25pm so losing a day of our holiday.

I phoned and got put on the flight 24 hours before.

I never got an email telling me of any changes to flight times

Thanks. The flights have changed. We now arrive at Stansted at 1:25am. Lovely. Easy to find a taxi at that time, won't cost a fortune at all!

Hi

Think you will find it easy to get a taxi as Stansted is pretty busy at that time of day.

If you are heading into London it will always cost more, about £88 is the average taxi into central London at any time.

There are several alternatives, the Stansted Express, National Express and other buses etc.

Can I suggest that if you know where you are heading for, ie which town or area, that you look in yell.com and search for taxis in the area you are travelling to. It will work out a lot, lot cheaper than http://www.checkercars.com who are the offical operator at Stansted.

You will also find the Stansted website a whole mine of really useful info
