Minimum transit time

I have BA tickets to KL arriving 15.45 pm. Is it too risky to book an Airasia flight to Bali at 18.15? Does that seem not enough time? Obviously I know there is a risk, but as the flights aren't horrendously expensive if the outbound flight would be massively delayed I could book a new flight, but if it's really not enough time I'll have to book the 19.40 one instead, but that's a shame as arrives quite late.

1. Re: Minimum transit time

Usually I would suggest visitors allow four hours. Airasia is located in KLIA2 terminal. It takes an hour to get through immigration customs and luggage retrieval. Half hour to get to KLIA2 from KLIA. Check-in can take a while and the Airasia counter will close 45 minutes before take off. And if your incoming flight has a delay or on strike...there can be a problem.

Sure the domestic flight is cheap, but last minute flights can cost more than double. What if the domestic flight is full? Then you’ll need to get a hotel at the airport.

Actually Airasia counter will close an hour before take off. I thought you will be going domestic but I see you are traveling to Bali.

Maybe consider Malindo airlines cause it’s in KLIA.

Your main point of delay may well be LHR. Many is the time I’ve sat in a plane, on the runway, for up to an hour waiting for the Air Traffic Controllers to find a slot for take off. Sometimes the plane makes up time but quite often it lands late at KLIA. If that’s the case you don’t have the proverbial snowball in h***s chance of getting through immigration, collecting your bag, and getting across to KLIA2 before the 1 hour cut off for Air Asia.

For peace of mind, and to save that panicking feeling as you realise your BA flight is going to be late, book a later flight to Bali.

Id maybe even suggest staying overnight in KL and head to Bali the next morning.

Enjoy what KL has to offer overnight, and get a good sleep then got bali feeling refreshed and ready to explore.

5. Re: Minimum transit time

What flight are you taking? I did a dummy booking on BA and I dont see any flights from LHR to KUL arriving 15:45 pm.

The direct flight arrives 17:00

Cheers

"Airasia counter will close 45 minutes before take off"

I think you'll find that at KLIA2 Airasia closes checkin/bag drop 60 mins before departure for both international and domestic flights.

9. Re: Minimum transit time

Thanks for the comments. My direct flight is in November and definitely lands 15.45, although I can see at the moment the flight lands at 17.00. I know it's no guarantee, but I can see from flight history that it is usually on time (aside from today of course when there is a strike!) I can see that maybe we are pushing it a bit with the earlier flight. I'd rather not spend the night in KL as I have to be in Bali first thing in the morning
