rental car, bus or plane?

Going to be exploring the Azuero for about 5 days in March and was wondering what the best way to get around that area and more importantly getting from P City to the Azuero....

thx.

There are no flights there yet - hopefully soon to Pedasi.

There are buses but if you really want to explore then a rental car is the way to go, that way you can stop and see the little towns when you want to.

Cheers,

Andrew

Thanks...do you think that part of the country will have an international airport in the next 20yrs?

No, I don't think it will have an international airport - no reason to - David is struggling to get theirs open to direct flights from the US and there's a whole lot more tourism happening near there than in the Azuero.

Andrew

No, Azuerro is too close to PC to justify a separate international airport, and the traffic volumes are too small. Check back in 20 years, I may be wrong.

There are frequent buses from Albrook to Azuerro, e.g. to Chitre. But once you get there it would be useful to have a car to explore. And it is probably easiest to rent the car in PC from the outset.

We are planning March trip and possibly going to both Bocas del Toro (La Loma) and Chiriqui island (Cala Mia). We also want to visit Canopy Lodge in El Valle. We thought that could take the place of the western highlands and sounds like a very special place. Is it insane to:

Fly into PC and then early morning flight to Bocas for 3 nights at La Loma

Fly back toPC, drive to El Valle for a couple nights, then continue on to Cala Mia for 3 nights?

Flight back to PC from David to see the Canal etc for a couple nights.

Obviously it makes sense to stay west if we can but the flights seem not long and fairly easy and we wanted to break up the beachy parts.

We are with 3 kids and intrepid travelers and comfortable renting a car and driving ourselves. How would the drive be between El Valle and David?

Thanks for any thoughts...

We had friends drive all over Panama with their two kids and all of them loved it.

Drive time from PC to El Valle is about 2 hours, then about 1/2 hour back to the highway and then about 4 hours to the Horconcito turnoff and about 20 minutes down this road to Boca Chica, where a small boat will take you to Cala Mia on Isla Boca Brava.

From Boca Chica to David is about an hour.

Flying back from David will incur a drop off charge for the car - but may be worth it rather than driving back 5+ hours with the kids.

Otherwise your itin is fine - jam packed but if you don't mind moving around a lot then - go for it.

Cheers,

Andrew
