Massage in Kota Kinabalu town?

Never have traveled to Malaysia but really enjoy holidaying in Thailand where you can walk in and get a 1 hour rejuvenating Thai massage at a massage shop for about US$10-15. I am wondering if massage is something that is available in Kota Kinabalu the way it is in Thailand (it may be cultural as well but not sure) - I am not interested in a spa experience with the aromatherapy etc that many of the resort offer but more of a local massage where you can walk into a shop and get a foot massage, etc. No funny business :) We've found that it's a really nice part of the holiday to get a 1 hour massage every day.

Thanks

U can pop in Wisma Merdeka (Next to Hyatt).. cant remember which floor but about 4 or 5th floor. Few outlets there. Most long time in business. Charging Rm30/hr for foot. No hanky panky... (anyway, RM30/hr seems to be the `standard' rate in town.. :-)

Spahkee

There's also a massage shop on the 3rd floor of the Centrepoint - they're a little tucked away, but keep an eye out for the poster on that floor - again, no 'special massages'.

There are actually quite a few places around if you keep your eyes open, or if you want to ask - especially reflexology is also part of the culture here, although it seems to be more medicinal than recreational.

Thanks all for your responses. I'm heartened to know that while massage may not be as prevalently offered as in Thailand, it may be available in KK town.

Do most of the places that offer reflexology also offer a Swedish, deep muscle or other kinds of therapeutic massage as well or would I need to seek out a hotel spa?

Thanks again!

I had a massage yesterday at Wasam? Plaza - its a modern shopping complex & its upstairs. Called - Jasmine - you need to look for the sign on the lower level - its near the escalators - Block A I think. Take the lift to the 2nd floor...its lovely 50mry for 1hr oil massage or 70Myr for 1hr shiatsu/Thai. Trust me - you will be stretched in all yoga positions!....They also have 2hrs for 125myr - its beautifully wooden place, smells lovely & has the curtain style affected around each person. Ph is 60 88 447 333. 11am till 11pm. The Hyatt also has massage but its double the price. Hope this helps.

Just make sure you say clearly how long you want. I asked for 1hr but it ended up being 2hrs!...no complaints though.

Charleotte,

It's Warasan Plaza, same place Vicdino mentioned above. The prices are fantastic, I might just go for one there myself.

I've been to the Manara Spa at The Magellan Sutera at Sutera Harbour Resort a few times. The usual treatments there vary from RM 125 for a 1 hour treatment up to RM700 something for a 3 day spa experience, foot baths, jacuzzis, facials, the works. The setting there is incredible though and the couple treatments are possibly the best foreplay imaginable and the treatment rooms lends itself to all sorts of non-massage activities.

Sorry, got carried away.

They also do Balinees, Shiatsu and Thai there, and another favourite of mine is the flagship Mandara Massage - two therapists works on you at the same time - it was really so awesome I wanted to pass out from the intense pleasure, but stayed awake for exactly that reason.

Nevertheless, if you want an experience, I can confidently recommend the Mandara Spa.

At the Tanjung Aru they're also currently building a specialised spa for their Chi brand. Will apparently be awesome when it's completed, scheduled for somewhere in September.
