Will be going to Alor Setar in June. Has anyone been to the Padi Museum in Alor Setar? I would also appreciate if anyone could suggest any other things to do in Alor Setar for a few hours? Thanks.
The Padi museum is well worth a visit, it has a large panoramic painting of the Kedah area at the top of the museum which revolves. It gives a good display of rice planting, particularly during the early years.
Other places. There is the old Portuguese fort at Kuala Kedah, there is also another one at Kota Kuala, the Bujang Valley where there are archeological sites belonging to the ancient Hindu civilization which was in his area, it is near sungai Petani, In Alor Setar there are the Masjid Zadir, Balai Nobat or Hall of Drums, Mahathir residence. See http://www.correctplace.com/KA1.html for a list of what is in Kedah.
Oh on re reading i see you only are there for a few hours, then you will not have much time. Their museum is also well woth a visit.
Thanks for your info. Actually my family will be staying at Jerai Hill Resort for 2 nights. Have you been there before? What activities do you recommend there?
We are doing a Thai VISA run, and are planning to be stopping off at Alor Setar on the Hat Yai/Butterworth train
Is the station near (in) the town? Have been told that Haji Ramli Nasi Kandar Restaurant is good, as is the Menara hotel (for High Tea at the revolving restaurant)
We have the afternoon.
Can anyone help, please?
Yes, station is in town. Those restaurants are worth a visit, Nasi Kandar is rice with curry. High Tea at Menara AS serves local with a mix of western and asian.
