City Centre or beach?

Hi, I'll be in ras al khaima in a couple of months and was wondering whether to stay in a hotel in the city Centre or somewhere along the beach? What kind of stuff is there to do in the city Centre, especially in the evening or night? Decent restaurants? During the day, I'll be doing other stuff. Is the city Centre lively or beautiful at night, like dubai? Thanks

First off, Ras al Khaimah is nothing like Dubai. It is tiny in comparison and has non of the iconic buildings or tourist attractions. Evenings are low key in Ras al Khaimah with Manar Mall and the Corniche the most popular places to be seen.

The city is a little spread out into different areas. The old town has many small shops selling materials, clothing, household wares and general everyday stuff. There is also a small fort that houses the museum.

The Corniche is a pleasant area that runs alongside the creek and is very popular with locals in the evenings.. Here there are several cafes and restaurants and makes for a lovely walk with views across the creek to the mountains. There are two shopping malls in the city which are pleasant but not huge like Dubai.

There is an excellent cinema in Manar Mall and a bowling alley nearby. The malls have fast food eating areas and out and about there are good restaurants although they are scattered about. There are several hotels in the city that have bars that serve alcohol although some hotels are "dry" hotels.

You do not say if you are visiting for pleasure or business but if you decide on a beach stay then be aware that the beach hotels near the city can be a little isolated and not within walking distance of anything whereas the Al Hamra area with its huge complex has something for everyone.

Sorry, also meant to add that if you decide on a city stay there are a couple of public beaches you could visit although be aware they have no facilities whatsoever. You could be a day visitor to one of the city beach hotels but this can be expensive.

I would recommend al hamra you can even try for short term let in a villa. While RAK is like a village it has its positives like it's a lot cheaper than dubai and has a thriving expat community. Hamra offers you the beach, golf and a mall though its small. Also there are two places near by to buy your evenings beverage.
