" Rip off Airlines "

Bringing back a topic I started 7th April 2010.

Being my post number 25 on 15th October 2010.

This post was about the Debit & Credit charges made

by the airlines.

Today at long last the Office of Fair Trading has stepped

in to make the companies show all charges at the start

of the booking form.

Statement on B.B.C. text service.

"Travel companies have been ordered to end the use of

hidden surcharge for passengers paying by card.

Now the Office of Fair Trading ( OFT ) has ordered them

to make all debit & credit card charges clear immediately"

It also wants the law changed to abolish altogether charges

for using debit cards.

To me a debit card is the same has cash, its money sitting

in your account,so why should the travel companies charge.

Fair enough credit cards are someone elses money,so there

is a charge, the credit card company give the travel company

a percentage for taking the cards also.

Totally agree and yet another good topic from yorkieborn.

Only paid £5 fee with aegeanflights on £622 booking, less than 1% so think that's ok and it's a clear flat rate charge, no gimmicks.

Hopefully the OFT and other relevant government departments will get their fingers out and get the complete ruling set up quickly - my worry is that all they will do is make companies simply highlight the charges for on-line purchases and go no further.

Have sent Emails sent to both my MSP & MP maybe everyone should do that.
