First choice prices

I am at present watching the price for a holiday next March in Khao Lak and after the recent passing of the King they are dropping, good for me, but whats the catch.

No catch. They will be basing their prices on their perception of demand for that period. Have you tried comparing whatever package price you are looking at with First Choice with your own DIY flight + accommodation prices for same hotels or others such as on Booking.com that First Choice do not feature. They have a limited choice and I and others would recommend avoiding any All Inclusive packages as they do not represent value for money and deny the opportunity of dining much better in terms of both food and locations.

We are going next April, for Easter and doing it all ourselves. I just had a sneak peak at first choice prices for next March and they are astronomical! And poor choice of hotels too! We are flying premium economy, five star hotel Bangkok, four and five star hotels in Khao Lak and internal flights and we have paid far far less! Do it yourselves you will save loads.

We are also doing it ourselves, booked flights with EK. (Business class outbound and economy inbound) staying at The Beyond Resort.

It never entered my head to book a package holiday

FC do have a USP in their direct non-stop flight from the UK to Phuket which is how they get away with the prices. Will probably save you about 5 hours compared with the next quickest option.

USP = Unique Selling Point.

So presumably First Choice are using Thomson Airways who are the only airline offering non-stop flights from the UK to Phuket. That may reduce the total elapsed time but there are limitations in flight frequency and choice of hotels.

You can travel "flight only" with Thomson direct to Phuket. It costs more than going indirect, but it saves time and stress.

Virgin holidays have just put online price of our holiday in Feb up £500. Guess Thai flights get dearer nearer to travel date. Package price was cheaper than booking Thai flights, hotel, transfers separately, and you get ATOL/ABTA, tour company rep backup if anything goes wrong.
