King's death and impact of year of mourning

We are heading to Khao Lak on Saturday. We want to be respectful of the fact that the King has died but are also keen to still be able to go out and enjoy the area. What is likely to be the impact and should we behave differently?

Thailand is i in mourning for one year.

Check your embassy for details.

At present you are advised to wear "sombre" clothing.

Public displays of ribaldry should be avoided - and be careful what you say.

Discussion of matters to do with the King are covered by laws which in recent years have been ever more strictly enforced

Check all appointments and venues in the immediate future - many may be cancelled or closed for a time.

whereas support for the King was not universal, many people will be in a state of deep grieving and you need to be mindful of this.

The Thai morning TV news of Oct 14th cannot say anything more specific than that 'parties and making merry' is to cease for one month. There are no specifics, yet. Nobody can tell what falls into that category: a show like Phuket Fantasea, a beer bar, a movie theatre, a wedding party?

Next week official rulings on what is appropriate or not would start showing up.
