Recommendation Needed - Best Resort for a young family

Hello everyone,

We're looking for an ideal resort in Khao Lak for our young family next April.

.

1. A nice calm private beach for a toddler and a 5 year old to step in and have a play, ideally by a bay or a cove.

2. Great kids club facility and nice pools.

3 Walking distance to various restaurants as we probably won't be going for AL.

JW Marriott would suit you. I am not sure about how many restaurants are left for you to walk to. Luxury escapes have good packages on all inclusive for a family of 4. It is an australian site but you will be able to purchase a package and pay in aud. The next package should come out in December. Here is a link to previous deals.

Hi, try considering either the Pullman resort or the Mai beach resort both on the same stretch of beach. They both meet all your criteria except private beach, there are no private beaches in Thailand .

The 4* Mai Khao Lak, located at the northern end of beautiful Pak Weeb Beach is one of the most popular family resorts in Khao Lak with lots of children's facilities and organised activities. It is a Tui resort and features in the Thomson Holidays brochure with non-stop flights from Manchester and Gatwick to Phuket. Several beach facing restaurants nearby and 25 minutes to the main centres of Khao Lak.

The 5* Pullman Katilya Resort is located further to the south on Pak Weeb Beach, sheltered by a headland, a few restaurants nearby on the beach or on the highway, family accommodation and Kid's Club and separate pools, one for toddlers.

Hi there

Is the Pullman yog'd mentioned previously called le Meridian?

I'm also considering the Sands resort by Katathani, which one ticks more boxes? More calmer sea and good restaurants very close by?

Hi stinkymonkey we are staying at the sands next April with our two daughters aged 9 and 7, the reasons why we choose this hotel this time is because it's in a great location, lots of lovely restaurants close by, and it seems that there will be lots for the girls to do and hopefully meet other children too, if they kids are happy, we are happy! We stayed at the JW Marriott last time which we loved but there isn't much to do in the area. When we stayed there are a few restaurants on the beach but sadly they have gone now. My girls aren't beach girls, I'm sure they might have a paddle but they prefer the pools so the beach bit at the sands does not bother us. We are staying there for 8 nights then thinking of either the ramada or back to the JW Marriott for the last 3 nights, if the restaurant re open. We have booked a luxury escapes package and we get messages, cocktails, two dinners etc and they have guaranteed us inter connecting rooms which not many hotels will do. We had originally booked two rooms but then saw the deal with all the added bits and it was the same price..and this was before the hotel prices had gone up, which they now have for our dates. Hope that helps.

Luxury Escapes is the name of the Australian company (like Travelzoo or Groupon) but you can book from UK. This is main site https://luxuryescapes.com/gb

Yes, the Pullman was formerly Le Meridien. It is located on the best part of the best beach in Khao Lak where you can lounge at the edge of the beach while the kids play on the beach and go in the sea in a clearly marked bathing area and with lifeguards on duty but with only a few restaurants nearby compared with the Sands which overlooks the beach with loungers on grass overlooking the beach not on it and quality of the sand and ocean not as good as at the Pullman. It is though right at the northern end of Bang La On, the main township of Khao Lak with over a hundred restaurants, bars and shops within walking distance (may need a stroller for the kids).

IMO the Pullman is the best all round resort in Khao Lak for its location, choice of accommodation and facilities for all its guests of all ages but its location is a Plus to Many and a Minus to others. You can see pics of it from last February which are mainly from the superb Katilya Villas part of the resort but which show other areas and the beach at https:/…

These are the latest of the Sands taken in 2012 when it was nearing completion. They are not representative of the completed resort as it is now of course but the beach shots at the end of the album give you an idea of its differing beach positioniong and the beach itself compared to the Pullman https:/…

We booked the package through luxury escapes.com and bought in English pounds but we booked it way back in May for April next year. We will be there for songkran too which will be fun. We upgraded to junior seaside suites and they have guaranteed interconnecting for us.

Luxury escapes have packages on most of the hotels mentioned. If you subscribe to them and scoopon you will see when the deals come out. The deals usually come out once a year sometimes twice.

Hi Stinky Monkey,

The Sands is a great family resort. Scoopon has a deal on at the moment $999 for 8 days (or you can upgrade for 10) and also $100 off so that makes it great value for $899. Take a look on the Scoopon site. Also has extras such as massages etc....

We have stayed at The sands twice and thoroughly recommend it.

Cheers and happy holidays.
