Pullman or The Sands

There is a deal on at the moment on both these resorts. Has anyone been to both to help us decide which they like best? They look very similar to me so any ideas would be great to help decide. thank you.

They are very different resorts in very different locations. Similar comments to your earlier post about the Pullman and the Haven.

The 5* Pullman Katilya is a bigger resort with more accommodation choices, more facilities (pools, restaurants), direct beachfront on the best part of the best beach in Khao Lak. The 4* Sands is direct beachfront on Nang Thong Beach but no loungers on the beach and more restaurants in the immediate vicinity. The Pullman though is further out from the main townships of Bang Niang and Bang La On where most restaurants, bars, shops and markets (Bang Niang) are to be found being about 20/25 minutes by shutlle or taxi whereas the Sands entrance is on the highway at the northern end of Bang La On.

I have stayed in both and much prefer Pullman although it is older both in style and condition, but a lot comes to the fact that I am a true beach lover. They are very different resorts just as Arandora explains. Sands is in town with endless amount of shops and restaurants near. Very open hotel area. Pullman is closer to nature and with more meandering style. Only couple of other restaurants on easy walking distance at Pullman. Both have nice breakfast and service, but Pullman is one notch better in both areas. Pullman is more expensive to eat at the resort. Both are quiet and classy.

Pullman..... perhaps not so attractive, now the beach restaurants, massage huts, laundries etc are being removed.

Food for thought !

The Pullman deal is $1998 while The Sands is $999 both for two, so a bit to consider there

Yeah, if decide on The Sands, you can then justify hiring a vehicle, which we find is very handy for our needs.

Why are the beach restaurants, massage huts getting removed from pullman?

The beach restaurants to the left and right of the Pullman have not, as yet, been subject to any removal action. Whether they will remains to be seen. The ones referred to in other posts are to the right of thePullman past the Beyond Resort across the creek up to the Mai Khao Lak Resort and were used by guests at the Pullman particularly in the High Season. They were removed because they were deemed to be on public land and therefore operating illegally. This has been happening throughout Thailand not just Khao Lak by orde of the Military Government. Whether any more in Khso Lak are affected is not known at the moment.

Not looking good I'm afraid. Sadly, we have received news and pictures today of the demolition of all the beach restaurants on Bang Niang beach to the left of Ramada. The pictures show all of the hut structures in flames.

That was always on the cards as this group was removed once and allowed back while the new Resort behind them next to the Ramada was being built. This area of beach forms the frontage of the new resort so not surprising they would have to go.

Of more concern is the row of restaurants and bars on the other side of the creek leading up to the new resort just past the La Own Resort. These were also demolished two years ago and relocated back at the same time as the ones near the Mai Khao Lak so it depends whether they were relocated on to non public land.

My first thought is the Pullman as we have stayed at both The Sands and the latter. However, there is a huge price differential. The Sands deal offers in my opinion better value for money. Additionally it is centrally located to Bang La On. It doesn't have the best beach but who needs a beach in the monsoon season when there are several pools?
