New airport for Phang Nga

A proposal for a new airport in Phang Nga Province to relieve pressure on Phuket Airport (despite its Multi-million baht expansion to opened shortly) has put Koh Kho Khao about 20km north from Khao Lak, along with a road bridge connecting to Highway 4, has been put back on the agenda as the favoured site.

Let's see how this proposal flies!

I suppose that any idea that will relieve pressure on Phuket Airport will be good. Let's hope the environment isn't changed too dramatically in the Khao Lak Area

WOW.....

I hope they have wheelchair access..

I understand the supposed "need " for another airport but what else would it serve apart from khao lak .

I see Melbourne - Koh Kho Khao, direct , in the green season as a wonderful idea....

Increase capacity to a destination by destroying the very things that people travel there to see? May as well turn the 4 lanes of Highway 4 into a runway, right through Khao Lak.

Procol does your comment in post 2 reflect that you think by the time it gets built you will need a wheelchair?! I like your thinking Melbourne to KKK direct has a nice ring to it. You just hope it doesn't destroy everything we love about Khao Lak.

Perhaps you will be able to fly from KKK to Samui in years to come. The airport could also connect domestically to Ranong airport for the northern Thai islands of Koh Phayam and Ko Chang (the lesser known one) as well as across to the East Coast and to the north and internationally into the rapidly developing Myanmar, Cambodia and Vietnam and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Currently there are about 60 airports of various sizes throughout Thailand in its 77 provinces. It would be wrong to suppose that a new one for Phang Nga Province will be only for Khao Lak and will be "the beginning of the end". That was the fear when they opened the one and only McD's!

Oh that will be sad if the tranquility disappears. A huge boost for business and hotels but at a huge cost to the charm of the area.
