Khao Lak is an area comprising 25km of coastline with 9 different beaches running along its length. It has two main towns, Bang La On (which some, including locals refer to as Khao Lak Town or just Khao Lak) where most restaurants, bars and shops are to be found and Bang Niang, which also has many restaurants, bars and small shops and the main markets. The Apsara is located on Cape Pakarang directly facing the beautiful but rather secluded Pakarang Beach with just a few local restaurants nearby, including Memories across on the beach and others down the beach road. Which will be open will depend on beach conditions/weather and number of customers at the Apsara and other resorts. Restaurants that have closed at the beginning of the Wet Season usually start to open in the middle of October which is when the nearby Similan and Surin Islands open for tours. Otherwise you are about 20-25 minutes by shuttle or taxi from the Apsara to Bang Niang and a bit further to Bang La On.

If you want more restaurants nearby you should be able to bet accommodation prices at up to less than half High Season accommodation in Bang Niang or Bang La On, where there are resorts just down from the highway on Nang Thong Beach.

You can view pics of all the beaches over the last High Season at https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g297… and Maps of Khao Lak at https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g297… and there is plenty of information about Khao Lak in the Top Question FAQs on the right if you view the forum on a PC or laptop.
