Hotels in Koh Lad

travelling to Khao Lak in Jan and Feb 17, is it necessary to book hotels or is it somewhere we could book places when we arrive, dont want anything too posh, just like a smallish not too expensive place with pool, any recommendations would be helpful. thankyou.

Definitely book now! I have booked recently for the end of Jan to mid Feb in Khao Lak and pretty much got the last rooms in our preferred hotel. You haven't specified a budget which does help with recommendations if you can post in Thai baht what your limit would be.

Jan is absolute peak tourist time in Thailand and whilst you may find some accommodation, it is possible that most mid-range accommodation will be booked out leaving you with more isolated hotels or those that are at either end of the $$ market.

We travel on Jan 31st & the 2 I emailed, one of which we haven't long returned from, were both fully booked, for the 2 weeks we were wanting,so I would say book now.

We have booked the happy lagoon bungalows, they are 2500bht a night.we had a look around them in March, when we were there & was quite happy with them.

Close to plenty of bars & restaurants,a minute to the beach, close to a couple of beach restaurants & a lovely pool area.

I agree you should book in advance. It is the smaller resorts that get booked up most quickly, particularly ones popular with repeat bookings like us at the Cousin Resort In Bang Niang where we stay and have done so for past 8 years. Five minutes back from the beach, own pool and restaurant, excellent value rates, easy access to the many restaurants, bars, small shops and main Bang Niang Market. See http://www.cousinresort.com/
