Beachfront resort with thai feel - 3 / 4 star

Hi

We are a couple in our 40s looking to return to Khao Lak in Feb / March 2017 after a two year gap! Last time we stayed at the Sands which was lovely but lacked a genuine thai atmosphere - any recommendations please? Budget 5000 - 6000 per night inc breakfast.

thanks in advance

Having looked at Booking.com for your dates and budget, the following would best fit "thai feel":

* 4* Bhandari - just across the access road from Nang Thong Beach and then left and up to centre of Bang La On at the Nang Thong Supermarket.

* 3/4* Baan Khao Lak Resort - direct beachfront at the southern end of Nang Thong Beach next to the 4* Laguna.

* 4* Khao Lak Wanaburee - half way along the lovely Sunset Beach, down from the highway coming over the mountain into Bang La On.

* 4* Sentido Gracelands - furthest north resort on Bang Sak Beach.

* 4* Kantary Beach Resort - perhaps not strictly Thai style but great value on beautiful Pak Weeb Beach.

Rates not showing yet for 2017 on 4* Laguna, 4* Andamania, Highly recommended 4* Orchid Beach Resort (best rates booking direct), 4" Khao Lak Palm Resort, all of which should fit your budget and are beachfront.

For authentic Thai beachfront bungalow resorts, consider Nang Thong Bay (NTBR1) and Nang Thong Beach (NTBR 2) Resorts, booked directly at http://www.nangthong.com/ and http://www.nangthong2.com/

thank you so much - that's really helpful. I love the Nang Thong resorts - they seem very good value and we could afford a seafront bungalow - heaven!!!

NTBR2 is a few years younger, NTBR1 being pre -Tsunami and NTBR2 post Tsunami. The bungalows are esentially the same and the two are about 400 metres apart, both with pools and their own restaurant and both seem to have an equal number of supporters. Plenty of posts about them if you do a search.

I prefer Nang Thong 2 but just as many prefer Nang Thong Bay. It is heaven having a beach front bungalow, sipping a pre-dinner gin and tonic on your porch watching the sun set.

Nang Thong Bay NTBR1's bungalows were all refurbished last low season with brand new bathrooms and as far as I'm aware this same refurbished has t been done with NTBR2?

I think either are very good value for money.

I would consider Thai Life Homestay to have a wonderful Thai feel....built using local timbers and Thai architecture....Tho' not exactly on the beach but fairly close and in a serene area of Khao Lak/Ban Naam Khem....

Stayed at Centara Seaview a couple of years ago in the off season. Had a fantastic time, but our standards might be pretty low compared to some reviewers.

We did look at The Sands, It looks really nice but as you said, it didn't really look to have that "thai atmosphere".

I am sure you would love either NTBR1 or 2. The beachfront bungalows are amazing, row 2 with a sea view are ok as well. Sunset cocktails on the verandah are great plus opening the curtains in the morning to the view is the best start to the day, along with a quick ocean dip.

We are heading back for our 7th visit to Khao Lak in a few weeks and also 7th to NTBR1, we always fit it into our itinerary. This trip we are doing an 8 night Sands deal then a week at NTBR1. We have done this previously both from The Sands and Kantary, and it always feels like coming home to NTBR1. We are late 50's - mid 60's and the place is perfect for us.
