Mai Khao lak

Hi does anybody know if the Mai still put in your room a bag to use at the beach and hats? We went two years ago and they did and we are returning in April. Also does anybody know the times of the shuttle to and from the town? Thank you.

I haven't been yet, but yes I believe they do still put in mats/beach bag as I read this on their site and on a recent hotel review (not sure about hats?? - did you mean mats?). I think this is because they aren't allowed to have many loungers on the sand due to regulations, so they provide the mats.

I can't be sure about shuttles, but think the last one heads into town about 1.30 pm which is really early (9.00 and 11.00 maybe for the others) - shame they don't do a night shuttle or at least a tea time one! I can see us spending quite a bit on taxis travelling into the towns. It's probably best to ask at reception when you arrive as even if someone tells you now, it could change.

My DH is a keen cyclist and wants to hire the bikes there (I don't think we will as it's probably too far for the children and will be hot). I think I'll send him in now and again if we need money or anything we can't get around the hotel :-) He'll be in his element cycling!

I'd love to hear a review from you when you come back. The hotel looks lovely especially as it seems very family friendly and we have two children! However, I have reservations about some things - having said that, I'm sure I could pick up on things at all hotels - nowhere is perfect for every different type of traveller!

There are plenty of loungers along the perimeter of the beach at the Mai under the shade of the trees but you are not allowed to take them further down on to the beach as used to happen before new beach regulations were introduced and implemented. The Mai has acted very responsibly in this regard. Those who want full sun lie on the provided towels or mats.

There is a money exchange kiosk to the right on the beach road and an ATM up on the highway next to a small minimart. There is also a small minimart for essential supplies like crisps, snacks, beer and other drinks and toiletries about 200 metres to the left among the row of about 20 restaurants, bars and massage places in addition to the Mai's own beachfront restaurant which serves cheap snack type meals including themed evenings. The other night was a Western theme and there were some Cowboys and Indians on horseback posing for pics with the kids.

It would be a long, hot and potentially dangerous cycle ride because of fast traffic into Bang Niang or Bang La On which are about 20/25 minutes away by shuttle or taxi. Taxi cost is about 300-350 baht each way.

Here is the latest, likely to be the last update of our album of pics of Pak Weeb Beach from just past the Pullman Resort to just past the Mai Khao Lak https:/…

Pics 102 -106 show the immediate beach front to the Mai with the plentiful loungers and pics 112-114 show the equally plentiful row of restaurants (2 to the right and 15 to the left plus bars, mini mart, small shops and massage places) leading up to the creek over to the Beyond/Pullman Resorts.
