Khao Lak accommodation

Hi,

We're currently looking at two accommodation options in Khao Lak; the Apsara resort which seems to be a fair distance out of the main hub and a second option off Phetkasem Road (main centre?) but beach front and close to amenities but very limited facilities (particularly with toddler in tow!). We like the look of the Apsara better due to the facilities on offer but will be travelling with a one year old and want to be close to amenities also. The problem is we'd like a separate bedroom to living area so our little one can have his naps/go to bed earlier and we can still use the living area, but it seems all options in the centre have booked out or are way out of our price range as would have to book two rooms (budget up to 7000 baht). Question: do any of the bigger resorts off Phektasem road allow non guests to use their facilities? Would obviously expect to pay a fee. It would be great if we had the option to use the kids facilities/toddler pool on the odd occasion! Otherwise, are there any hotels I may have missed that offer separate living areas that aren't advertised on trip advisor?

Thanks in advance

What is the "other" resort? Petkashem Road which is Highway 4 runs all the way through Khao Lak. It is the main highway from Bangkok to the Malaysian border.

As a rule though the larger resorts don't allow non-residents to use their facilities. It tends to upset the guests who have paid for them.

An idea of your dates would help to provide you with some options to consider. From a family with children point of view the further away from the beach you are the hotter it gets!

The Cousin Resort where we are currently and every year has two two bed family bungalows, the Ayara Villas has family bungalows, the Nangthong Bay resort has family accommodation. Booking.com allows you to search for accommodation with separate rooms.

I would definitely second Arandora on looking for family bungalows rather than two rooms, which would not be suitable anyway with a toddler. Both Cousins Resort and Nang Thong Bay are reasonably priced and lovely resorts.

Thank you, I think Nang thong bay, which is the resort we were looking at might be the way to go.

Sorry, in response to the first reply, we're looking at going end of March/beginning of April.

Both the Nang Thong Bay Resort (NTBR1) and Nang Thong Beach Resort (NTBR2) would meet your criteria and budget. However you may have difficulty booking as they are very popular resorts with lots of regulars rebooking and the end of March/ early April is Easter and so more popular than usual.

See the recent topis on these resorts and in particular the advice to enquire and book direct through the websites and email addresses quoted in them.
