Hotel options

Hi all,

Does anyone have any thoughts on Kantary Beach v Apsara please? We're booked into KB but the resort doesn't look as nice as Apsara so were thinking of changing. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks.

Hi we have stayed at the kantary and merlin and found that we liked them both.at the kantary we stayed in the individual " villas " and liked the roominess of them and it is situated on one of the best beaches in the area but is a bit isolated with just 3 restaurants just to the right on the beach and a couple of more to the left.

The merlin is built into a hillside and would cause problems if you are less than mobile.there are several restaurants and shops in the area.

Cannot comment on the apsaras.

Thanks! Kantary seems to have a bit of a holiday park look & not too traditional a style, was this the case please? We've booked it but it looks a little more basic accommodation!

I agree that the kantary is not very traditional but found the villas very modern and comfortable when we stayed there .we liked the separate sitting area from the bedroom and the outside shower.i believe the rooms in the main block are the American except the outside shower.

I would say that the merlin buildings are more traditional Thai but are more basic inside and after a week going up and down the many steps became a chore.

Have you thought about staying at the mukdara in bang niang area of khao lak ? Just came back from there and thought it was very good.

Fab thanks. We're going to be limited by available hotels with the operator we booked with, not even sure we can change. May stick with Kantary then if it's good! Thank you :)

The Kantary is not traditional Thai and a bit IKEAish inside but as well as being on the best beach in Khao Lak, the accommodation in both villas and hotel suites is very impressive and spacious with more facilities (two separate rooms, two TVs, micowave) than most other resorts. It depends what you want from the location. The Apsara is more secluded.

The KB villas are great, separate lounge room with large lounge, large verandah with table and chairs, outdoor shower, kitchenette and 2 TV's. Modern décor, which I agree is a bit Ikea-ish. The place is a bit like a little village. The minimart is very reasonable for resort standards. The beach is magnificent, and a 300m walk to the left you have The Boatyard, one of the best eating spots we've found in 6 trips to KL. The food is very good, as are the Long Islands, we trecked back 4 nights in a row, in a 5 night stay. The only thing we didn't like with KB was that the beach side pool was very hot, not refreshing - but you also have the gorgeous blue sea to do that.
