Marathai Hotel

Hi. We usually stay in the Bang Niang beach area but are thinking of trying the Marathai Hotel. Does anyone know if there are any beach bars or massage huts within walking distance as we believe is is quite remote? Many thanks.

Secluded rather than remote. It depends whether you you want to be near town (Bang La On/Nang Thong Beach or Bang Niang) or on better beach with enough eateries on beachfront within easy walking distance from its location on beautiful Bang Sak Beach just across on Pak Weeb Beach. In fact there are more near the Manathai than on either Nang Thong or Bang Niang Beaches. See pics of Bang Sak Beach from last High Season including the Manathai towards the end of the album at https:/…

I visited Manathai recently just to take a look on it: it is quite large hotel, 150 rooms or so. At times when it runs at high occupancy it seems there will be bottleneck at ppol, and both restaurants as they are quite small. The staff is very pleasant and professional, definitely with a high mark on Thainess scale.

BUT:

Thai menu is awful: Pad Thai restaurant offers like 10 kinds of Pad Thai and few types of Khao Pad , and and just few more Thai dishes, and the main restaurant has 5(five) pieces of Thai cuisine on the menu. Considering pad Thai/Fried Rice a kind of Thai junk food, so no real Thai food. The nearats restaurant is 15-20 minutes walk on the beach. About massages I don't remember. There is nothing from the road.

Prices in hotel menu is not really high.

For me such Thai food selection is unacceptable, so if for your Thai food is important, and Pad Thai/Fried rice is not enough, then you may be not very happy about stay there.

Otherwise at not crowded times is very lovely place.

In fairness many, probably most, people dine outside their resort, particularly if there are beach restaurants nearby. So hotel menus are restricted and normally more expensive than local restaurants.

But for Manathai there is no option to dine outside as because there is no restaurants neither or on the beach, nor on the road in close vicinity, the nearest one is 15-20min walk on the beach.

That's why on premises dining is more important here than usually.

Sample prices: Pad Tai,various options, from plain to seafood 200-350THBB,incl.of service and tax, plain Somtum 200THB - for hotel restaurant prices are OK.

C'mon Sergeyu. Many people walk 15-20 minutes from their hotel whether there are restaurants there or next door or whether they are on the beach. If that is the most important criteria to yoy fine but if you want a beautiful beach location with a decent resort and a choice of decent restaurants within easy walking distance the Manathai has much to recommend it.
