Manathai Resort Khao Lak

Hello all

Heading out to Khao Lak on 2nd Sept. Top tips from people who have been in the rainy season about what to pack Never been on a long haul flight we are flying with Thai airlines from Heathrow to Bangkok then on to Phuket I'm guessing our luggage will be sorted and we will just have to get ourselves to the other flight ...... Looking to get out and about and see the local area any help gratefully received 😀

First, are you flying on one ticket from Heathrow to Phuket with no stop over in Bangkok? And who are you flying to Phuket with? If you are on one ticket your luggage will automatically be checked through to Phuket even if you change airline to say Bangkok Airways. If you are with Thai and on two tickets or even with Bangkok Airways on your Phuket leg, just ask at check in at Heathrow for your luggage to be checked through to Phuket. If you are checked through you remain in transit in Bangkok and clear Immigration there through a special desk. It is all clearly signed and airport staff on hand to help you if in doubt.

As for what to pack, even if there is rain it will still be very hot and humid and hopefully plenty of sun too. So you need light, casual clothing, plenty of sunscreen (even if it is cloudy which is probably the most dangerous time to get bad sunburn) and insect repellent. Although malaria is not a problem in Khao Lak, you still need to apply repellent in the evenings to prevent mossie bites turning infectious. You should also apply it during the day as a prevention against bites from day time mossies which carry Dengue Fever which is prevalent throughout S E Asia. We use Boots sunscreen with insect repellent built in.

The Manathai is located on beautiful Bang Sak Beach which is about 20/25 minutes to the north of the main townships of Bang Niang and Bang La On where most restaurants, bars and shops are to be found. However, turn left from the Manathai and about 300 metres there is a footbridge across a creek on to the also beautiful Pak Weeb Beach where there is a row of upwards of 18 or so restaurants, bars and massage places (some may be closed). For tours have a look at the pics of the popular ones at tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g297914-i10908-k… but be aware that those to the Similans, Surins and Koh Tachai don't operate until mid-October. Tours booked at hotels tend to be more expensive but if you get details from the tour desk there are several of the restaurant/bars across the creek who book tours as well as many more in Bang La On and Bang Niang. It's worth shopping around as prices for the same operator are very competitive.

Hope this helps.

Hi

We use Thai or Malaysia Airways from Heathrow your bags will go through without collecting for your second flight, if you have not Pre- booked your seats you can at Heathrow for your second flight.

Don't worry about the weather you should still have sun, I hope so because we are there mid September

Luggage will only go straight through automatically if both flights are on one ticket. If not it depends whether the connecting airline has an interline agreement with the main one (Thai in this case). If on separate tickets you have to ask and confirm when checking in for the first flight that the luggage will go through. In all probability it will but you shouldn't assume it will. The luggage tag put on by the check in agent should show Phuket (HKT) as the final destination on the outbound flight and Heathrow (LHR) on the return from Phuket.
