Weather in August - storms with lightnings?

we plan to go to Khao Lak in first 2 weeks of August.

I know there is a lot of rain during that period, but are there storms with lightnings?

Could it be dangerous to be outside hotel/bar during these downpours?

Is it possible to diving or snorkeling in August? If there is no rain of course...

Are tourist attractions closed or opened? We are little bit afraid that the place would be deserted during that time and it would looks sad...

Thank you for your advice

No Tomas

Khao Lak is not sad in august.

plenty of restos to keep you happy.

sure there will be some rain but I don't think you will be removed from this planet by a lightning bolt..

common sense suggests if there is a HUGE storm, one would rather be inside anyway

No snorkelling to the similans in august.

others may have suggestions re diving etc

Just go, be happy and enjoy...

Khao Lak is never sad, despite the weather. You have just as much luck as getting taken out by a bolt of lightening in Khao Lak as you do in your home country. Common sense should prevail irrespective of where you are.

Have fun, its a great location and so much to do.

We were in Khao Lak last August staying at the newly opened Sands Resort. During the 10 days we were there we had a solid downpour lasting 20 minutes on our third day. After that, no rain whatsoever. The weather was hot, very humid with the skies sometimes clear and at other times cloudy or overcast.

Swimming in the ocean at that time of the year is out of the question with red flags signifying such on the beaches. As mentioned, the Similans have a holiday for a few months during that time of the year. We found the "green season" in Khao Lak to be absolutely ideal. Maybe we were just lucky, but hey, why not take a punt on August because as others have said "Khao Lak is never sad".
