ThaiLife Homestay Resort and Spa (Bang Muang)

Would like to stay here for 10/11 days in December but reviews generally seem to say there is little here, other than an on-site restaurant.

Are there any shops/restaurants within walking distance? (as in 10-15/20 mins?)

Can you swim on the near-by beach?

Some reviews mention an on-site taxi that will take you to the 'near-by town'......does this taxi wait? How much does it cost`?

How long would it take, in a taxi, to get here from Phuket airport?

Didn't particularly want to rent a car hence all these questions......

Many thanks

The reviews are right. The resort location was chosen for its solitude and for those who wanted to be away from the commercial areas and "live" in a local community. Many guests stay long term. The nearest town is Bang Muang which would be about 20 minutes walk from Thai Life but it is a typical small local town with only food stall type eating places, local markets, shops and a Tesco mini mart. No bars or tourist restaurants. Thai Life offers a dining package if you want that at their very decent restaurant.

The "near by" beach is lovely with a beach bar for Thai Life clients but it is a good 15-20 minute walk from the resort. Swimming is fine but no snorkelling there (or from any of Khao Lak's beaches).

You are about 10 minutes by taxi to the ferry at Ban Nam Khem and then regular longtail boat ride across to the small island pf Koh Kho Khao where there are restaurants at and near the pier. The car ferry only runs in daylight hours but the longtails all day so you can go over there for dinner or get a taxi on th other side for a day at the beach. Sunset Restaurant at the tip of the island is a good place to spend the day.

Sorry, can't help about local taxi costs but shouldn't be expensive for local trips.

Bang Muang is about 20km north from Khao Lak and some guests there make occasional trips for dining or shopping or both into Bang Niang or Bang La On. A taxi from Phuket Airport would take about 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 hours. See here for details of Boss Cheaper than Hotel Taxi rates which include 1500 baht from Phuket Airport to Ban Nam Khem pier which is the one down the road to Koh Kho Khao, so should be that to ThaiLife. tripadvisor.co.uk/…61431814

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your very thorough reply which has helped us to decide that ultimately this would not be the best place for us to stay.

Still a secret tip

Who likes to ride through the area and want to discover interesting beaches, should look at the Thai Life Beach Bar in Nam Kaem. Endlessly beach and yet almost none there.

Directions: Always follow the signs "Thai Life".
