Khao Lak Beaches 2014-15 High Season

There have been changes to the beach scene along most of Khao Lak's beautiful coastline, both natural, as they constantly change over the Wet Season, and man made, due to the enforced removal of illegal businesses that operated on some of the beaches.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words so here are links to photo albums of the various beaches along the Khao Lak coastline as they are now taken on our beach walks since our recent arrival in late November 2014 and through to our departure in April 2015. The albums will be added to and updated during the remainder of our stay. Some may contain only 1 picture at the moment until we get around to visiting them all.

They run north to south from Koh Kho Khao to Poseidon Beach:

* Koh Kho Khao, the small island to the north of Bang Sak Beach reached by short ferry crossing from Baan Nam Khem, the location of the Tsunami Memorial.

https:/…

* Bang Sak Beach, from Sentido Gracelands Resort, Bang Sak Promenade near Haadson Resort, Bangsak Village and Manathai Khao Lak (formerly Royal Bang Sak Beach Resort) to the creek across to the northern end of Pak Weeb Beach.

https:/…

* Pak Weeb Beach from the creek across to Bang Sak Beach, past the Mai Khao Lak, Beyond and Pullman Katilya (formerly Le Meridien) Resorts to the headland onto next stretch.

https:/…

* Pak Weeb Beach from the headland after the Pullman Katilya Resort, past White Sand Beach, Kantary and Sarojin Resorts, past Coconut Beach (the area near the Boatyard Restaurant) to Cape Pakarang.

https:/…

* Pakarang Beach from Cape Pakarang and the resorts along the top end, Apsara, South Sea Grand, Toklaburi and Palm Galleria to the creek crossing to Khuk Khak Beach.

https:/…

* Khuk Khak Beach from Pakarang Beach past the J W Marriott Resort and adjacent restaurants, Andamania Resort across the creek and past the Blue Lagoon and Orchid Resorts to the creek over to Bang Niang Beach.

https:/…

* Bang Niang Beach from the creek at Khuk Khak Beach past the various resorts on the beach front, Shambala, Ayara Villas, Casa de la Flora, Fanari Beachfront, Sudala Beach, Chong Fah Resort, Sita Gardens, Box BK Bungalows Bungalows, Mukdara, La Flora and Ramada Resorts, to the creek across to Nang Thong Beach.

https:/…

* Nang Thong Beach from the creek past La Own Resort, Peter Bar, Sands Resort, Andaman Beach Resort, Ocean Breeze, Green Beach, Nang Thong Bay (NTBR1), Centara Seaview, Nang Thong Beach (NTBR2), Suwan Palm, Baan Khao Lak and Laguna Resorts to rocks over to Sunset Beach.

https:/…

* Sunset Beach from rocks next to Laguna, past Sensimar, Moracea (formerly Khao Lak Resort), Wanaburee, Paradise, Bayfront, Palm Beach,Sunset and Baan Krating Resorts to the Khao Lak Lamru National Park headland.

https:/…

*Khao Lak (South) Beach from the Khao Lak Lamru National Park headland past Baan Sunetra, Luckanawadee, Briza, Diamond, Emerald and Merlin Resorts to where it crosses over on to Poseidon Beach.

* Poseidon Beach past Komol's Corner and overlooked by Poseidon Bungalow Resort to the creek across to Tab Lamu Beach (within Royal Thai Navy Base)

Combined with the maps at tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g297914-i10908-k… I hope these bring back memories for those who have previously enjoyed these wonderful and very individual beaches and perhaps encourage those who haven't been to Khao Lak to do so.

For a comparison with last High Season have a look at tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g297914-i10908-k…

I hope you enjoy viewing the beaches as Mrs.A and I do walking them.

Quick question - those huts and beach chairs at Bang Niang are they part of a resort or for rent from somewhere? Curious with the new rules / laws etc how they work now? We will be staying in this part of Khao Lak

PS: you're very good to spend your holiday time looking after TA :-)

Thank you !

The part with Khao Lak beach (Emerald, Briza etc) doesn't seem to work properly on Picasa?

Kawoos

The Pine Restaurant and massage places next to the Ramada have loungers that are put out on their land. We've not actually stayed there yet so I don't know whether they charge for them or whether they are free if you dine or do business there on there land. The loungers on the beach are taken there by the tourists using them. They are not supposed to rent loungers or umbrellas to be taken on public beaches. The 3 restaurant/bungalow resorts on White Sand Beach are definitely renting sun beds and loungers on the public beach so run the risk of action being taken against them if the Military comes a calling.

We have a lot of time on our hands in TA and if we can pass our enjoyment of that time on to others and persuade them to come enoy KL too it's worth the fantastic salary TA pays me!! ;-)

The Khao Lak Beach link works fine for me and should be available to anyone who uses this link. However, there is only one pic from last year in it at the moment until we get around to going to that beach and adding photos taken then. I will update this topic when we visit other so far unvisited beaches.

As at 6th December 2014 photos added to:

* Khao Lak (South) Beach - not a lot changed here. The walkway in front of the resorts which had been severely eroded last Wet Season has been further eroded and not rebuilt so best access between resorts is along the beach.

* Poseidon Beach (immediately adjacent to Khao Lak Beach) much the same with massage places and a few off the beach restaurants, including Komol's Corner open as usual. Didn't manage to get to the far end past the Poseidon Resort as the tide was in up to the rocks.

We are "swaying" towards the Sands at the moment for "location" etc, how is the beach at this resort? Also some reviews says it gets very busy?

We will be arriving in KL on the 3rd Feb......

Thank you in advance as always...
