There are no beachfront restaurants now near the Orchid. The nearest are the Lay just up the road and on the same side as the Orchid and the New Kai's Family restaurant in a similar position which will open in about a week.
Further up past the JWM, a good 30/45 minute walk there are restaurants set back from the beach but again at the moment the creek in between those two parts of the beach would be difficult to cross at night.
To walk to the creek over to Bang Niang takes about 14-20 minutes but it will depend on the state of the tide whether you can comfortably and safely get acoss and/or back especially at night. I would get the hotel shuttle or taxi.Edited: 02 December 2014, 13:10
Good news! After making the last reply we had a ride down to the Orchid to confirm what I thought the latest position was. We drove down past the still under construction Haven Resort to where one of our long time favourites used to be right at the end overlooking Bang Niang Beach. Well, we couldn't see it in its old location from Bang Niang Beach but it is still there, relocated onto a bigger and better private location under the trees bordering the beach. Restaurant, bar, massage places and loungers, free if you dine there.

Be careful here as it is still a sun trap!
Just curious as to what this old favourite is called that you are talking about?
Sorry, Sunset Bar & Restaurant.
